My engine or turbo is squealling every time I push on the throttle, sounds like the bearing or somthing in the turbo as it only squealls while it is spinning up.

Also HP and fuel milage are way down.

Are the bearings replaceable or do I replace the complete unit.

If a must replace, is there other options than Dodge? Banks/ cummins/ after market/take offs, etc.

TIA

you could send it to Piers to be rebuilt and turned into a PDR HX35

Cost ya right around $400. 00 or look in the classifieds for used turbos too

If you are sure its your turbo I would stop driving the truck and get it fixxed NOW. If the turbo fails you could injest some parts into your truck or cause the engine to runaway on oil and destroy the engine. That would be very bad.

There are lots of other options out there. I would think your best option would be the dealer since it does not appear that you have modified the engine. If you want to stay away from the dealer and spend some $$ then you could get the trubo rebuilt (if its not junk) or you could buy a PDR-HX35 from www.piersdiesel.com He makes exclent replacments.

If you had time for your truck to be parked he could also rebuild (once again if its not beyond repair) your current charger and do some mods to it to make it a PDR turbo.

The other option would be to just buy a new HX35 from a local source. My local Bosch pump shop carries lots of turbos and has good prices. . yours might too.

What ever you do I would stop driving it till you are sure its fixxed.

***edit** Now that I noticed that you are in Vancouver I would think giving Piers a call would be a no brainer... he could get you a turbo in very short order and get you back on the road.

Great eye JR2. I've been trying to get my work to send me off to

Seattle, WA so I could take a nice drive up to Vancouver and visit

Piers, Al, Harry, and the girls. I might have to wait until this time next year before I can get up there... :-(

I'd go visit Piers and ask for opinion. Great people up there.

exhaust housing bolts could have loosened up. I guess a bushing could be worn as well. Also check for boost leaks. Reb

oh, when i meant ex. housing bolts, i'm talking about the one the bolt the housing to the turbo, in the middle of the turbo. i've had these loosen up on two different turbos. also where the turbo bolts to the ex. manifold. but it would more shush sound from there. the bolts in the middle of the turbo cause a high pitch sound, from the turbo fins scraping the housing.

I doubt it's the turbo.........

If the bearings failed it would trash within seconds. It's spinning at a tremendous rate and there is no tolerance for error. I would look at the belt and all assosciated things. AC compressor maybe? Tensioner pulley?

Quick test would be to pull the intake hose and start it for a few seconds. After shut down the turbo should spin freely for quite a while. If it does this look elsewhere for the problem.

The turbine fins can (and will) rub the housing if the turbo is worn enough. It is usually the compressor side, I would pull off the intake hose and see if the shaft can be moved up and down and front to back.

Is it a squeal or a high pitched whistle? My 99 started to whistle upon acceleration and it was just a loose clamp on x-over tube. Big rig diesel repair shop told me what to look for as it was a common problem. . Steve in N. Ca. :)
