Hey guys, i have a intercooled hic i think 54mm compressor side, with a 16cm3 turbine housing. Think this would make a pretty nice upgrade over my stock baby hic that i got? My current turbo is pushing about 36-40psi unloaded and i have seen over 50psi loaded!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was thinking of making a custom crossover pipe to the newer turbo and use a 2. 5" silicone coupler. Im thinking this upgrade will get my egt's lower and ill see an increase in throttle response and fuel mileage. Seems like i'm pushing alot more boost than the average truck here. My egt's are controllable but i can get it up there if i want.

The truck is what has the intercooler, not the turbo. The smaller housing will help a little. I take it that turbo was pulled off of a 92-93 dodge?

If you're hitting 50psi ever you may want to consider head studs. I was at around 47psi unloaded and I was a little worried that I was walking the thin line there.

Ok... thats what I thought you meant. I didn't know the turbos were any different between the ic and non-ic trucks. Learn somethin new every day. You already own the newer turbo, I take it? I guess if you do, the best way to find out what itll do for you is to throw it on. Experiment a little, what you learn is invaluable knowledge.

yep i already have the turbo, i just want to see if its worth the swap. im also going to probably swap on an ats manifold with the turbo.

Yes it will be an upgrade, however let me give you a heads up.

I installed an I/C H1C on mine when I installed a 3 inch intake elbow and a custom 3 inch crossover pipe.

The H1C fluttered big time.

I changed the compressor wheel and housing to one from a 94 WH1C and the flutter went away.

All is good now.

Hope this helps you out.

Jay

Man. I don't think I'd do it. I mean, I did and it ain't much help. I have a PDR 58mm with 16cm2 (or an 18) exhaust side to swap on.

I built the 2. 5 inch cross over because the turbo from the 1993 truck has an outlet of 2. 5 (as most turbos for Dodge trucks do 'cept that unit I pulled off). I used a silicon hose right on the turbo flange which was cut down. Also, my inducer cover is custom MAP cut so I can't comment on any flutter as I don't get that.

Yeah three inch pipe would be OK to but I didn't need that as the turbo is 2. 5 so I just kept it the same all the way into the intake. Besides,,,,,,,,,,,,, I think Jay likes to go big because he may be compensating for something. I'm just saying.

Oh, and install pipe nipples into your new cross over. I didn't and now will have to cut and weld after the fact if I go and add water. You'll want water if you have POD's or go bigger AND tow with this.

I went 3 inch because the intake horn I added is 3 inch ID. I simply made my crossover to mate, and adapted the turbo outlet to the crossover.

I just skun the cat differently than you Scott.

I got flutter that was 100% predictable and repeatable with the standard H1C from a I/C engine. Not sure why, but lots of us have had flutter issues... . I think this happens when the compressor blades "stall out" because the engine can't swallow more air. The WH1C compressor housing has the MWE slot ... plus the compressor is slightly larger.

edit. . oh and the intake horn is tapped
