I have read that if I wanted to upgrade my turbo I should move to and hx from a standard transmission truck? I thought that my turbo which I assume is the hy spools faster and made more boost?

It probably does spool faster, but the hx 35 will flow more air. Boost numbers aren't that important, its about how much air it can effeciently move with out over heating it. Your hy 35 is ok to about 30 to 32 psi, and after that, it may still make boost on the gage, but it is REALLY HOT air, and doesn't help in anything, and will probably add to the egts. Also, when running that much boost in your hy, your cylinder pressures are extremely high, and can cause headgasket problems. Thats just a good start, if you have any more quesitons just ask... .

I was under the truck today looking for another rattle and noticed that the turbo elbow is bolted to the housing. Does that mean this is already and hx?

The HX and HY Exhaust elbow mont the same way with the same bolt pattern. The easiest way to tell what turbo you have is to read the Holset tag on the compresor housing. If you cannot read that then look at how the exhaust housing attaches to the bearing housing. The HY uses a Vee clamp configuration and the HX uses four 5/16" bolts in a circular pattern with flat plates.

OH ok I was lookn at the wronge part. I have to check tomorrow. If I do go to a hx will I lose power off the line or on my top end?

It may spool a very slit bit slower, but you probably will not notice it.

Just a question, why do you want to upgrade your turbo??? Are you adding a "box" of some sort, or injectors?? If not, i wouldn't waste your money on it. .

The very first thing I did to my 02 at about 2000 mi was install a PDR HX 35. It spooled up slightly quicker than the HY. best thing I did

I just put on a PDR 35 with 14cm housing. Spool up is slower, but not very much. Not bad at all. Engine seems to breath a lot better. I was under the impression that the hy could only go to about 24 psi before the air temp started to get high. My hy was starting to seep oil from the seals and I didn't want to put money into an hy, so I up graded. Now I've got some DD2s I'm gonna try :D . The Piers modified turbos seem to spool better that an unmodified version. I'd guess a PDR would spool about as good as a regular Holset with one size smaller housing.
