Howdy,

I've been thinking about what I'm going to do about a turbo, because I will need one before very long(6 months or less. I most definitely will get a three piece manifold to optimize the new turbo's efficiency :D .

here's the options I have, which one do you think I would benefit most from??

1. Just a plain rebuild on the ol H1C

2. Rebuild and upgrade of H1C, and convert intake crossover tube to accept intercooled turbo.

3. Rebuild and upgrade of Hx-35 I have and conversion of crossover

4. Rebuild and upgrade either turbo(preferably Hx-35) and do the intercooler conversion to my truck.

#4 will probably be done in the long run anyway, but it may be a while until I get all the money and parts needed; by then, It will probably be a bigger turbo... or. . two :D :D :-laf

Thanks, Steven

#4, with HX35, though you can do #3, you don't have to have an intercooler(I don't), and I will be doing twins and even bigger injectors.

I'd go with #3 at this point... you can always adapt as you move forward with an IC later... in the mean time the modified '35 wil give you a much better efficiency map(range) and improve responsivness a fair bit.

Call PDR as they will take your '35 and do the work from the ground up including what's called a "zero balance" which means they get the assembly balanced as close to "O" error as possible. .

One thing I'd like to also throw out here... and this applies to almost any reputable company doing business in this field... the HX35 is, in my opinion the most versitile and durable turbo we can currently use in med-med high performance application.

Mine has survived many run's up into the 1800*F range at over 45psi boost (beyond it's map) and it is still as tight as the day I put it in... .

pb. .

Since you already have the HX35 then go with that. Might as wellupgrade it before it goes on... doesn't make sense not to IMO.

If you are looking for an idea to convert the crossover... see my reader's rig pics.

Steven,

I had a HX-35 that I got off EBay. Sent it to HTT for a Stage III upgrade. It has done a really great job with the PODs and pump mods.

Thanks guys,

#3 seems to be the most viable option right now. Won't be no more trouble to go to #4 later on. Hope to do this pretty soon, I will have to scrounge up all the parts needed.

So, let's see if I can get it all = intake horn from a intercooled truck, 4 inch air filter hose, straight piece of intercooler pipe, couple IC boots/clamps etc... straight turbo to IC adapter? Did I miss anything or is this it?

Are the oil feed lines the same between an H1C and the Hx-35?

This is gonna be fun :D :-laf I like fabricating.

Steven

It depends on what you plan to do in the future. Either way, I would do the IC mod and go with the HX-35.

But that's if you plan on staying below 350-400hp... if you plan on going more wild than that real soon, go with an s300 (HTT series), like the 62/14 version so you can upgrade it later. Not to mention, the S300 makes a GREAT top turbo for twins.
