Airdog with electrical fuel gauge?

Forged Pistons

I have a 2001 with the automatic transmission. I recently bought and installed the EDGE Comp chip into it. Part of the install is to replace the brass nipple that comes off the turbo to the wastegate with one that has an orifice to delay the opening of the wastegate. The stock turbo on my truck is smaller and the line is welded to the wastegate and turbo and and cannot be modified. How much of the performance from the chip is lost, and I am thinking about putting in a stock turbo from one of the other years that has the modifiable wastegate actuation line. Would putting in that different turbo have an effect to the overall operation of the engine, and would I have to do any other modifications to the truck.

You DO have a EGT gauge boost ,and fuel pressure right??

Your truck needs them.

Now to answer your question, Do a search on the turnbuckle. This holds the wastegate closed longer so you can get the boost up to 30 or so. This helps performance and cooling the exhaust.

Next you will need transmission work. A tighter converter will make a smile appear on your face.

I have EGT pre and post turbo, fuel pressure, boost, tran. temp, rear diff gauges. I have K&N cold air intake, Magnaflow exhaust, Mag-hytec double deep transmission pan and rear diff cover. Edge Comp chip. I also use Royal Purple oil for everything in the truck. Are there any other upgrades that would be a must happen right now or soon so I don't F*** up my truck

J-hook the waste gate. There is no brass nipple on the '01 A/T turbo. Make a j-hook with parts from tractor supply, Lowes or Home Depot. The sell that hook for $45 dollars at some Diesel modification sites.

I installed Mack 1. 6 injectors and an Edge Comp with the hook all the way tight and have never seen it go over 30-35lbs of boost. I had never seen over 15lbs at stock.

Like the posts above. . install Fuel Pressure,EGT at minimum. Your exhaust gas will rise, probably not out of control without the addition of injectors or a Hot Rod VP44. The big thing is to Know when to shut that engine off at a safe temperature depending on pre or post mounting of you temp sensor.

Sounds like work adding gauges and it is a little, but most stupid problems on this board happen due to a lack of monitoring what is happening internally. Guys fasten on there Edges, TSTs and all is well for a while. Plus gauges will tell you your next modification needed (FASS, Larger exhaust and intake, Turbo) and do not forget the transmission. Go slow, add smart and have fun!!

When my truck had 20 mi on it I put guages in it. It would kiss 1300 egt bone stock empty, granted that was pulling a hill and if you lugged it a little. When I had 200 mi I put a PDR HX 35 12 CM it spooled just a quick as the HY. best thing I did... . never hit 1300 again... . now with a comp and 275 injectors its still fine. Why mess with a POS hy put a decent turbo in it... ... ... ...
