Ok guys, hoping this is a good thing. Very slight turbo whine while cruising around in my 07 5. 9 that I just bought. Man that truck just runs circles around my good ol' '95. Truck was put back in totally stock condition by the selling Dodge dealer before I ever saw it. Runs like a champ, tons of power for my needs. Just need to hear from you all to see if that slight whine is the norm, or is there an air leak on the intake side of the engine somewhere? I did check the turbine for play, it feels totally within spec, actually better than my '95 12V does.

An aftermarket air intake or even holes cut in the factory air box would give more turbo noise than usual. Check all connections on both sides of the intercooler for loose/broken clamps and for piece of mind you might even pull a boot real quick to make sure you dont have any oil coating the inside of your plumbing. What kind of mods did the dealer remove before you bought it?

There is a intake silencer that many remove to allow the turbo to sing louder to them. It is a short straight section between the rubber elbows between the air filter box and turbo. Many have either modified it by removing the veins or replacing it with a straight open piece of tubing. Doesn't affect performance, only allow you to hear the turbo.

Every thing looks stock, no holes in the air box that I can see. The original section between the filter and turbo is all OEM, fins and all. Are you guys telling me that I should not be hearing ANY turbo whine?
As far as what was removed? The invoice showed an Engine Controller, plus they pulled the gauges and replaced the modified pillar. From the looks of the rest of the truck, I don't think the original owner went nuts turning things up. Buying used is always a gamble, but I think I got a good one. Out here in CA used 5. 9s are a complete PITA to find not all butchered up. Bob4x4 I would tend to agree about the airflow thing.
