Turbo Whine

OK,this white 2500 diesel is heading toward me,looked sweet,no decals,emblems,just plain white-n-shiny. So he passes me,we nod and I hear this COOL whining sound. Not like your flying down the road or maxing out rpm before shifting,just a nice loud whine. Sounded like he should have had a supercharger poking through his hood... . What makes that sound!!!I WANT IT!!!! Oo. OH and I did'nt see a TDR sticker

Take out your silencer ring and remove your airbox snorkel if you like the turbo noise. An airfilter like a K&N will also help you hear that 35 too.

BSoldie--I removed my silencer ring when I got the truck,and replaced the filter with K&N ,it's a different whine than that. ALOT LOUDER . and dumb question but AIRBOX SNORKEL??? Oh yeah,the covert 2500--Boston

I straight piped mine, left the resonator, changed to a AFE Megacannon and changed injectors. Everybody looks up when I go buy

If you wanna really hear the wine, you need to swiss cheese your airbox, or just get rid of it altogether and put in a nice big aFe, K&N or similar filter. The airbox really cuts down on the whine.



Or..... better yet..... maybe a set of THESE... ... YEEHAWWW

where's the turbo whine

Just installed a Jardine 4" exhaust last week that has a straight through muffler, reults, no turbo whine. I can here the turbo whine from the intake side, but none from the exhaust. My 95 6. 5 chev had a 3. 5" exhuast with a straight through muffler and had the sweetest turbo whine coming out of the tailpipe as it went buy. My daughter took it over for a while and the boys at school stood and drooled when it went buy. She's cute too. Is there a silencer ring on the exhaust side of the cummins or is the motor to loud to here the whistle? DW

OK, I watch the video,the truck SCREEMS down the track and I yell THATS IT really loud. I was alone but so excited that I spilled my coffee. So I PM HEMI DART(how the heck do you get that little r in between your name?)anyways,his reply was "I DON"T KNOW" . I was so disapointed after reading that,I had to go pop a VIAGRA!!!!!just to get the feeling back from when I first heard it . . Can someone play it and see if you can tell what it is... PLEEEASEOo.

Your too much ! You got it bad. I tell you what, I had that same feeling when I heard the sound of horsepower too. You just got to bite the bullet and get a BIGGER turbo! Until then your always going to wonder " what is making that sweet sound "

Welcome to the TDR. Prepare to learn more about your truck than probably any other vehicle you've owned.



If you remove the (plastic) air intake hose from the turbo, you will see a snap ring, which retains the silencer ring. Its sole purpose is to reduce turbulence (whistle) as the air enters the turbo. Studies have shown no HP/EGT gains with or without it. Many commercial vehicles don't have it installed (only passenger vehicles, where the designers are more worried about noise).



You can remove it to make the turbo "sing" a little louder. Simply pop out the snap ring, and remove both pieces. Just be VERY CAREFUL not to stick anything into the vanes of the turbo (could easily damage them, costing a lot of $$$).



Be sure to keep the parts, because if you ever get a higher efficiency air box, the noise may get too loud for your taste.
