I am wondering if there is a way to get the turbo to whistle like the 6. 0L Fords.

Not really any way to do it. You can remove the silencer ring on the turbo and replace your intake with an AFE and Torque Tube.

The reason the Ford's turbos are so noisy are because they're variable geometry turbos. Both the intake and exhaust are exraordinarily noisy.

Maybe with the new ATS Aurora turbo and Banks VGT turbo, you can get the noise you're looking for.

If you want a whistle try taking out the silencer ring. That will give you a loud whistle. Not sure what the Ford turbo sounds like. I have heard some amusing coffee grinder type sounds come from Ford 6. 0's.

Silencer Ring removal, AFE in take.

You'll get more of a "tractor trailer" big rig responce kidna turbo whistle then the ford's because of the fact they use a VG turbo.

Basicly, at idle, you won't get much sound compared to the ford, but once you get some RPM, you'll hear it realy good :)

put a B1-04 turbo in! That is what I have and I can hear some turbo whistle in the cab as long as the truck is moving even if there is no boost being generated. It is loud enough that I can hear it with the windows up, the air on recirc. with the fan on the second to highest setting, and the radio @ 10 vol.

As already said the silencer ring works, but instead of buying a $90. 00 torque tube that may or may not make more power(depends on who you ask)the factory baffle in the air intake is very easy to remove. I have found you get the whistle you want and this mod is free.

I'm gonna guess that most of you guys have never heard a 6. 0 with the same intake/exhaust mods that you are refering to. The 6. 0 will whistle to the point of not being able to hear the exhaust tone at low RPM's. I have made all the mods to make my 5. 9 as loud as it will get, but it pales in comparison to the 6. 0.

In my opinion, the 6. 0 whistle is just plain obnoxious. I heard one at horse camp a couple months ago. I could barely see the truck through the trees, I could not hear the engine or the exhaust, but the turbo whistle could be heard throught the whole holler.

I like turbo whistle, but I like exhaust notes too!

There are a couple of straight piped 6. 0's around here, and you literally hear them several blocks away. Even decelerating, they are obnoxiously noisy. I think that it sounds better toned down just a bit.

I wouldn't mind a bit more turbo sound from my exhaust, but I don't think I want it to sound like a Ford.

I have to agree with what ChrisKringle had to say about his metal tube.

I had pulled the silencer ring and have an AFE ProGuard-7 air intake system. It was pretty loud. Then, I installed AFE's metal Torque Tube. That REALLY amplified the turbo whistle. Sounds like the intake on an F-16.

My Duramax buddy, that really likes quiet diesels, got a headache from an all day ride in my truck. So, I guess it works!!! I've ridden in it on an 8000 mile trip with the windows rolled down and it didn't bother me. I must be brain damaged.
