Send the pics. I will do the best I can. I have seen some really old examples. There is one in a window at a tractor dealers place on 27 (near) Okeechobee Florida. Check private message for email address. Any chance you could get me a ride on a tug. Every time I cross the Mississippi and see those tugs working below, I think what a great adventure that would be.

The whistle occurs as the blades of the cool and hot side of the turbo slice the inrushing air. With the intake off the cool side, (and nothing anywhere to be sucked into the works) rev up the engine and you will see and hear what is happening. DO NOT PUT YOUR HAND OVER THE INTAKE OF THE COOL SIDE. YOU CAN LOSE A HAND.

Guys,

The stock first gen turbos do NOT have a silencer ring. The HX35 is a second gen turbo that will work on our trucks and the PDR HX35 has been modified to spool up even faster. I was able to use the 16 housing off the old turbo on the new HX35. This thing spools way faster than the stock HC1.

I didn't put it on just to get more "whistle", it was for faster spoolup so more fuel could be put to the engine with out massive amounts of smoke.

Howdy Stan, I would like to know how the changing of your turbo affected your fuel mileage. If you change the turbo, should you also change the injectors? Thanks, Billy. .

Billy,

The fuel mileage really didn't change much IF I keep my foot off the floorboard!:D :D I get between 19 and 21 empty. It drops when I like listening to the turbo though! I had already put in the 185 injectors, that was the first thing I did several years ago. I turned the pump up some then and had the timing set properly to 1. 7, but it really woke up when I took it up to Piers and had Nascr Mark tune it up. Power went from 195 RWHP to 270RWHP with the pump tune up and a new AFE filter instead of the BHAF filter. Could have gone farther with the fuel screw but I feel I'm pushing the transmission as it is. I love driving the truck at the new power level I'm at now.

I didnt notice any difference in MPGs. BUT... . it allowed me to keep up with traffic easier, making it more enjoyable. With the 18 cm housing, I didnt gain a LOT of peak boost, maybe 2 psi, but it came on a LOT faster and stronger. I was hitting 30 psi with the PDR HX35-18 combo; with the 12 and no gate yet, I get to 40 with little effort. Be forewarned, if you change even the housing, be ready for a 1-3 mpg DROP for a few tanks, while you are enjoying the fun. THen when you have wiped the grin off (takes me at least 500 mi), and feel like driving it sanely, you can see if you got any mpg improvements.

Injector changes depend on the depth of your pockets, and how far you want to go in BOMBing. I have the EDMs, (I know, I promised a report, but all I'll say is the Mach1s are a little much for non-IC trucks; we're working it out, then I'll give a full report on the Mach1s and the new Mach. 9(?), and like them so far, but the smoke wasnt cut as much as I'd hoped for. Most performance injectors will net an increase in MPGs *IF* you keep your foot out of it. Takes fuel to make power, and if you use it, you'll use the fuel as well. THere are a few theories on why (the mpg increase, not the drop with increased right foot usage), do a search and come up with your own conclusions.

When changing the turbo, it isnt a bad idea to get your injectors checked, if you're mechanically inclined and know where to get it done. Sorry for deviating from the topic, he started it. :)

Daniel,

I have had my setup for a lot more than 500 miles and STILL can't get a good MPG reading. Sure glad the floorboard is there to stop my right foot!Oo. :D :)
