Hello fellow TDRs,

I was adding an adjustable boost elbow to my turbo today and noticed a black oily substance on the outer edges of the fins when i had the rubber elbow off and was wondering if anyone else has encountered anything similar. and what should i do?

I would greatly appreciate any feed back.

thanks

George

The oil can contaminate your IAT (Intake Air Temperature) sensor.

If you start to notice decreased fuel economy, excess smoke, high EGT, or excess soot in oil analysis - clean the IAT sensor.

See the instructions Here

Note that some folks report better mileage/less smoke after cleaning the IAT, and others claim it made no difference.

I would say that it can't hurt to clean it, but then I've also heard that it CAN! I figure that if you try to clean a fouled IAT sensor and damage it, you will need to buy a new one. No worse off than if you *didn't* clean it, and just went and bought a new one. LOL

I'll bet money it is your K&N. I had a brand new 01. 5 used fleetguard replacements never had a build up after 32k. I just purchased a 01 with 39k and a K&N and it has oil and black deposits on the fins of the turbo. Changing filter back to stock tomorrow just recieved my stuff from Geno's.
