A friend of mine said blowing an inter cooler hose because it causes the charger to over speed.



I think excessive and continued high EGT's might cause the turbine fin tips to erode and then you have an out of balance condition which would do it. I am sure others feel high EGT's will ruin something else first.



Going WOT and letting off the pedal too fast is hard on them.
 
An air filter that doesn't trap enough dirt may erode the compressor blades over time.



Sudden changes in exhaust energy under high boost conditions can cause turbo bark, which in severe conditions can snap the turbo shaft.
