On my 99 I have 275's and an adjustable boost elbow, the highest my EGT's will get is 700 (post turbo)and this is towing heavy at full throttle, The wastegate is stuck shut on the turbo and it will get to around 30 psi of boost.

I was wondering if the wastegate being stuck shut is what is keeping the EGT's down?

If so, would the truck run better if got the wastegate working again and used the elbow to get the EGT's to around 900 or so (after turbo)

The truck seems to run fine, its just that the EGT's are so low that it just seems weird.

thanks,

Cory

30 psi is definitely helping, with a elbow and stock turbo/ecm/injectors I got to 26 before the wastegate opened, so it shouldn't hurt anything leaving it the way it is. And 900 post turbo is pretty warm, with my current set-up I only get to 1050 pre-turbo on a hard pull. Figure you need to add about 250-300 post-turbo

cmills, I would look at your situation as a good one. Most type in here to complain of excessive EGT's. At what RPM are you seeing the 700 degrees?

When I get above 2500RPM is when I start to see higher EGT's on a hot day.

Supermod56, how do you like the 14cm housing? I have considered this "modification" for a long time, yet have not heard enough compelling info either direction to get me off of ground zero (factory 12cm).

It seems to work great, used to push 1250-1350 towing the race car, now it hits 1050 on the biggest hills, and 700-750 on the highway going 80 MPH. I changed to the ATS manifold at the same time, so that had a lot to do with is as well. I get 36-38 psi with it, and it is wastegated. The Catcher has something to do with the boost numbers. Real easy install as well, got it from Olee Poole, who is sending me my Don's Mach 1. 6 sticks and RASP as we speak.

PS: Where in Idaho you at????

Thanks guys, I haven't really paid attention to what the RPM's are when it hits 700, but I can be at around 19,000lbs going up hill and holding it to the floor and just maintaining speed and that is about all the higher the temps will get, I know getting it too hot is bad, but I was wondering if it would actually run better (or if it would actually be running more effiecient) if it was running a little closer to the 900* limit? By the way I do have the ATS exhaust manifold also, so I would assume that would cause tha EGT's to stay a little lower also.

So you think I should just leave it alone then, and not try and get the boost down?

If so I guess leaving the wastegate stuck shut will not hurt anything, right?

thanks again,

Cory

If you are only running 275's and I assume a boost fooler with your shut wastegate, you probably are ok but if it were me I would drill that ats manifold and get a pre turbo egt reading. More reliable reading with the pre and no guessing.

thanks, I was going to do it before, but I'm just scared that I won't be able to get all the metal shavings out and that it will damage the turbo.

I just drilled the hole, pulled whatever I could through the hole with a magnet and didn't worry about the rest. I am guessing that when you start the engine up the rest goes right on by the turbo.

Man I wish I could be that carefree about things, I guess I just worry too much.

I guess that is what I am going to have to do also.

Put grease on the tap and clean it often, takes awhile, but no chips in the turbo. If you are worried about it just take the turbo off, real easy!!!
