I'm looking into buying a new turbo. My truck is every day user for work and for fun(mostly for fun). I don't tow anything yet. I plan on towing a 8k pound rec. fifth wheel 4-6 times a year. I plan on buying jammer III nozzles the same time I buy my turbo. This is my 1st diesel ever and I love it(also 1st post). What turbo do you guys recommend. I just wanna move my truck fast.

If your not in a hurry, I am waiting for my HTB2. It should be here next week and its going in next weekend. I will be giving feedback as others have been interested. I pesonaly believe that this should be a good unit for the guy who wants good street performance and daily driving manners but doesnt want to go to twins.

SMoules... Give J. R. Adkins a call. He has some of the best turbo's out there. He has a Schwitzer turbo that would be great for your set-up. Very fast spool-up and will keep your egt's in check. You also get top notch customer sevice with J. R. His # is 317-281-3130.

I have the Super "B" turbo from BD Power and it comes with a 4 in down pipe. The turbo sounds great and was a fairly easy install except for the oil drain tube which needed a little work to fit correctly. I don't know how much the competitors turbo cost but you can get the Super B from JC Whitney for about $1000 if you have a 20 percent coupon.

I'm really liking my HTB2/12. My last dyno was 460hp, and I have yet to see 1300* pre (empty). That's about 100* cooler than the same mods with my DZ/14 hybrid. And that's with the new turbo running at only 33-35psi (the DZ was at 40psi). The bottom end response is much better too. I'm making power 200-300 rpm lower than the previous turbo. The 12cm housing is absolutely the way to go with this turbo, unless you spend most of your time full throttle and over 2500 rpm. With as good as the wastegate is on this turbo, you'd really need to be pushing some serious fuel to need the 14cm housing. And at that point, you could probably use a larger turbo anyway.

No towing feedback yet though. I haven't had a chance to pull anything since I put the turbo on.

I have a phatshaft 62/14 with jammer 4 nozzles, and the spool on it is still awesome. i went from the stock hy 35 to the phat shaft 62, and spool isn't much worse at all. I can still make about 20 lbs at 1500 rpms. Thats pretty good for most people... . Not knocking HTT, but i dont have experience with them... im sure they have good products. Good luck on the turbo choices, took me forever to figure out what to get...

same boat here! im looking at the B-1 series, HTB2 and PS62s and wow what a tough decision, they all look good i willl be looking forward to all your feedback...

Stick with places like HTT, II, City Diesel, etc. If there are problems with the product, they will stand behind it.

HTB2 is in!!! Need an excuse to go drive and try it out. I took project photos so if anyone want a look, let me know. More later.

I have had good luck with the HTT stuff. I think the HTB2 is a very economical solution. Anybody gotten a price on an phat shaft 62 lately? I heard they went up quite a bit in price, just lookin for someone who knows if they did or not.

I got my HTB2 on my truck about 3 weeks ago along with the three piece manifold, sure did help EGT's from going thermo-nuclear all the time and cleaned up the exhaust to a haze, it will surge a little but im happy with mine!... . Jeremy

thanx for the replies fellas.

KKlingbiel what kind of numbers are you getting with that setup?

RebelRam thanks for your replies. How does that turbo do going down the freeway?

Cowboydually why is your truck surging?

I am very pleased with my choice. Spools great. No lag. No surging. Sounds cool. Temps are good. Real good pull down low. Cruising along at about 60 with 1500 R's. Roll into it and it just growls out the torque. I love it.

Smoules, I haven't dynoed with this setup, but i will be dynoing in about two weeks when i make it back down to Floor it Diesel in Lawrence Kansas. Should be a fun time. . Anyway, i think i am around 425 to 450 horse, but this is only my guess. I haven't upgraded my comp to a drag comp either, so im sure im loosing a little bit there. i will post results when i get them...

Just a little info from experience.

If you want it to have little or no smoke, avoid the HX40.

I run one on occasion and I do like the top end charge, it is slow to spool and gives a big cloud of smoke. Worse in hot weather.

I feel there are better options for the 24 valve trucks.

I am building twins.
