is a 04. 5 and up turbo a easy cheap small to moderate upgrade for a 03 555

thank you for sharing your experiance

I have read that is is a SMALL upgrade over the '03-'04 turbo and that it is very similar to the Piers mild turbo upgrade. For what I have seen them go for on ebay I would opt to get one from Piers as they are/were $450. 00 and you would not have to modify the wastgate actuator as the newer ones are electricaly actuated. I don't know if the Piers upgrades are still available as I haven't looked in a long time.

I've asked that question on this forum a couple of times and never gotten any non-anecdotal answers. I'd like to know though!

100 Proof

I figure that is because it will only provide a small difference. With a 65 hp box it would work ok. If you have plans for over 65 hp like most do then its wasted money. Any more and its not enough turbo. If thats all you want its an ok mod. I had planned to change mine after I added the quad box, but added a bit more fuel and am out of its range now. If you could find one cheap enough why not, it sure cant hurt if you are stock or close to stock. They have a slightly larger compressor, and I can't remember what else.

thank you for your reply the reason i was asking is it seems most people with the 600 610 engine seem to get 30 - 34 psi and i only get 22 - 24 psi on my 03 that was stock. with the 50 hp tips and some other small mods i can get up to 27-28 psi but still don't have problems with exhaust temps. i really don't have the funds for a real turbo so was thinking that if the 600 610 turbo would work plus maybe a little stronger that it would do me good. about the peirs one it seems like people were having surging problems with it not sure if they got that worked out i should call them and talk to some one that knows more

I have been in he same boat as you in that buying a new turbo for 1200 to 1500 is not going to happen for awhile. You might try one of those turbos from the 600/610 engine. The only thing it could hurt is your wallet if it doesn't work like you want. If you don't have egt issues now, I would wait and save my pennies for a larger one, or find someone that knows a bit about twin setups and use your stock turbo as the small one and add a larger one (maybe used) of whatever is suggested. For me, I am going to wait and get a sp62 from Industrial Injection sometime in the future. Do it right, do it once.
