2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Turn signals stoping to blink

I am having an issue when I turn my left and right blinkers. First they blink, for a minute or so, then stop. They just stay on without blinking. It never happened before, yesterday was the first time. First I noticed the right blinkers doing it. After that it did it on the left side when I was waiting to make a left turn.

Has anyone noticed this? What could be the problem? The blinker switch under steering wheel, or some relay? I hope someone has experienced this and can point me in the right direction.

First thing to do is the simplest- beat the hazard switch atop the steering column into submission, cycle it multiple times, spray it with contact cleaner. They are notorious for collecting dirt mechanically and electrically and they route power causing even directionals to malfunction strangely.

THEN, swap out the flasher unit just in case it is failing

THEN check all bulb status, the flasher requires intact bulbs on both 'sides' of its circuit to cycle correctly.

Only then get into wiring harness issues, which are much less likely.

... the turn signal flasher. The bi-metal strip has partially separated, so it's not pulling the contact back like it should to open the circuit, making the lights stay on... . most likely. When they don't work at all, or only when you "jiggle the handle", that's usually the signal switch.

Was on my way in to get my '97 3500 truck inspected and the flasher did the same thing... . flashed once or twice and quit. I swapped the turn signal flasher with the emergency flasher and my turns signals worked but the emergency wouldn't flash. Stopped by the auto parts place real quick and walked out with a heavy duty flasher (with clicker). It worked so well, I decided to get another and replace the emergency flasher too... . not... . the heavy duty unit is too long and interferes with the finger pull on the panel cover.

If you still want to use that HD flasher, just make you a wire jumper harness, with two 12 or 14ga wires, about 3" long or so. Tie strap or find an insulated loom ring/holder(gotta find one the right diamter) and attach the flasher to the metal support and plug it in with two male terminals. I use shrink wrap to protect the bare metal on the female connectors, so nothing falls into them or in case it were to come loose. I need the HD flashers when pulling farm equipment and I leave the flasher on for several hours at a time, running truck lights and magnetic lights I have plugged into the trailer lights... .
