I did a search and found the detailed pics for the turnbuckle method for the hy-35. I am running stock other than ez. Will I benefit from this? Will I set overboost codes? Thanks. .

your egt's will be down. And turbo sounds better. No codes set the ez masks them. I prefer the 22 shell methed but I have used a turnbuckle too.

Been using the turnbuckle for about a year, no problems, with my DD2's i see about 35 psi of boost, also with the EZ it tricks the truck into only seeing stock boost:D .

how the fudge.....?

I have tried the turnbuckle 3 times, and each time it fell off. I just don't understand why or anything. All I know is that I get back, look under the hood and it's gone:mad: . I WILL NOT DO THE HARDLINE SCREW, OR THE . 22 SHELL, I still want my warrenty. Maybe on dyno day in DFW I can get somebody help me put on on. :D

Andrew

The 22 shell comes out with no marks. So no warrenty problems. Although you will wreck the shell removing it. Good thing thay come in boxes of 50.

TXDieselKid...

Try it this way. You have to make sure it gets hooked behind the actuator. Maybe this pic will help. I used a spring with mine, yet I can still max at 35# of boost.

Big White Beast.....

That is how mine looked, only with out the spring. I tried it on the bottem like that, and once on the top. Fell of every time. I tightened up as tight as I could get it, couldn't wiggle it with my finger. But I don't know. Maybe I can get someone to help me this weekend at the dyno day before it's my turn to dyno. :(

Andrew

wait a minute.....

I don't know if this makes any difference, but my actualater does not, nor has it ever had the Holset tag on it.

One last thing, I tried the 1/8", and the 1/4" turn-buckles and it didn't matter. I want to kill my truck so no spring is nessacery.

Andrew

Kid -

Did you use a jam nut on the turnbuckle after you tightened it up? If not, the turnbuckle will vibrate loose and fall off every time. Garrett's picture above shows the jam nut at the top of the turnbuckle.

Steve - the original turnbuckler :)

OK, all of this talk about warranty... ... . on an ETH with the rubber wastegate hose, will it void the warranty to put the boost elbow on?

I was looking at it today and it seems that they put clamps on both ends that you would have to destroy to take the hose off.

The dealer would then see that you tampered with it

Am I missing something here? The turnbuckle will prevent the actuator from opening the waste gate regardless of boost. Why can't I simply remove the hose and fitting from the turbo to the actuator and put a pipe plug in its' place? With no pressure from the turbo, the waste gate will stay closed??? yes..... no... . ?

Sorry, I see you all have '01's with the hard line but..... if you had the '99 would it work?

You don't have to destroy the clamp to get it off...

Just persuade it a little :D . I used a small flat screwdriver to spread the crimps out some-with a little twisting and pulling you can then work the hose off. I put the original in my glovebox and used a small worm-gear clamp to tie the hose back to the new elbow.

Many guys have said that if you go for a short drive and get the truck nice and warm you can just pull really hard and the rubber hose will come right off with out messing with the clamp. I cut my Dad's off and replaced it with a reqular hose clamp. It would be real easy to make up a story about why you had replaced the hose. If you are really worried, replace most of the clamps in your truck with SS hose clamps and say you did it to be sure that everything was ok and because it looks cool.

As the inventor of the 22 shell method I would have to say that is is the one least likely to be spotted by a DC tech snooping around. How many of them are going to pull the hard line to look for something in there. When I took my truck in for warranty work I took the shell out in about 10 minutes and this included removing the airbox and hose to the trubo to make room to get at it.

If I was to do it all over again I would drill a small hole in the 22 shell so that some air could get by. If you played with the size of the hole enought you could get it so that you could not go over about 26 psi, which if I remember correctly is the top end of the efficiency map for the HY.

JR2

I used the turnbuckle method w/ the spring attached. I too, did not want to grenade my HY35. I am seeing 25 PSI before the wastgate opens. I was going to get a larger spring so I could get higher boost , however JR2, I believe you are correct. The HY35 starts loosing it's efficiency at around 25 psi.

Once I Bomb enough that I can no longer contol my EGT's with the puny HY35, It will be time for a Piers's Modified HX35.
