Yeah I know that everyone always wants more, but at $2. 20 a gallon for diesel and I'm only getting 14mgh. I have come to the conclusion that maybe if i turned down the pump I might get a little better mileage. What do you guys think. If I can I would like to try to get it on the dyno sometime next week and then turn it down, but we will have to see what happens.

I know that I will defiantly hate driving it without the extra go, but it still wont be like a stock one. I wonder how long i can drive it without turning it back up.

Stomp

Stomp, look at my truck profile. Before boosting the power I was getting 20 - 21 MPG on a trip empty. Just finished a trip to Washington and on the way home I got 20. 2 MPG. It takes only so much fuel to push the truck down the road and better breathing should only help the mileage, not hurt it. Not sure about those injectors though. The biggest thing is to keep your foot out of it and take off easy.

Tell you what, take off that propane system and I'll take it off your hands. That should remove some of the temptation I know you must have to use the power once in a while! That would be my way of helping you get better mileage!:D :) ;) . (then I could tell you if it was hurting your mileage any!)

To tell you guys the truth I think it is the injectors. I have 3. 54 gears with the old getrag. I don't know what I( got for mileage stock only had it a week till I turned up the pump. I had a set of 60hp over stock and was getting around 19-24mpg. On a good tank I get around 15 and on the highway 16. I know that isn't as bad as some. This is without a trailer. I cant wait till I have to fill it up again towed the whole time. have a little over 200 miles on the tank and I need to go and fill it up.

I usually take it pretty easy and don't use the propane at all. Well unless I really need the extra power.

Gee Stan, what a guy. I'll bet if I pulled my DD3+ injectors you would be willing to take those and tell me if they caused a drop in fuel milage.

What an act of selfless kindness. If only we had more friends like you.

Just kidding big guy.

And if you do get that propane, let me know how it works, OK?

Heck Dave, you have plenty of friends like that! I'll offer to take those DD3+ injectors ... and ... umm ... err ... ahh ... deliver them to Stan for you! Yeah, that's it. I'll deliver them to Stan for ya. :p

Heck, I'll tade ya right now! My PW's for your DD3+'s. PW's are going for $800! I'm offering you a sweet deal!

Turning down the power!!!

FOR SHAME!!!! :D

Yeah, injectors will do that to ya... if you swap them out for smaller injectors and keep off the go pedal, I'm sure you'd get better mileage.

Detuning the pump may help... but that would only work if you have NO self control like me and can't keep off the go pedal all the time!!! :D

Moderation and smaller injectors is all I can tell ya buddy.

375 injectors , burning rubber , chasing girls and a user name as Stomp . No wonder you ain't getting no fuel mileage .

Oh H E double hockey sticks maybe I should just go out and buy a little rice rocket to drive back and forth to work that way when I get 30mpg in the car and 14 in my dodge I can take the average of 22mpg. Does this sound ok with everyone?

I try so hard to keep my foot off the go petal, but when I have to go to the ranch up and down the hills and through the switchbacks then all of a sudden the is some tree hugging hippie on a bicycle in the middle of the road. Guess what happens next mash the petal hold it to the floor and give him a big old cloud of soot. Maybe thats why I don't get very good mileage?

Stomp

Stomp,

A very wise man from Henderson NV. told me you have the power when you need it. Just use your foot as a governor. I doubt that the fuel screw will make that much difference unless you are "pedal to the metal" all the time. My old "93" here has been tweaked somewhat, but the Hwy. mileage with my 26' fiver has not changed much. Its nice to have the power when you need it.

Its all the way you drive it.

Hey Dave! Guess you saw right through that comment huh. :D Sure, if you want me to test those injectors I'd be happy to.

About the propane - since you helped me install that modified fuel pin, if I floor it without giving the boost a chance to catch up there is a huge black cloud and that will get me a ticket one of these days. The boost went up a couple of pounds, is now at 35. that is with the pump backed off those 2 turns on the smoke screw and 2 turns up on the star wheel we took. Thought the propane might clear up some of that smoke. already backed the fuel screw back out 1/2 turn from the Dyno day setting and don't want to take any more off.

Right Carl!!!

:) I notice you didn't say how soon I could expect delivery:D

Sheeshhh..... loons and wacko's abound... . ;)

Ok, propane is a a gas in it's uncompressed state... right... . Now, if we look at the this another way... Dave is always on about "air"... and that is a gas in it's natural state too... so ergo... Dave is a gas (aka:wind) and Carl is an optimist if he thinks that Stan (who is a newly reborn teenager) is ever going to deliver those nozzles, furthermore, Wayno is jealous that he doesn't can't get away with chasing girls and a user name as Stomp, who himself can't figure out why he only gets 14mpg (see signature for hints)

and... ... . well you all get the picture..... loons and wacko's I say... loons and wacko's... .

And I'm supposed to know what to do with you guys... . hmmmm... .

hey how about a crusade??? you guys, I'm gonna send you all on a crusade in the name of O. L. O. A. C to look for the wholey nozzle... . yaaa there ya go... now off with ya. .

I know what you should do with us! Have another 1st gen day! Oo. (If he read this, Piers would avoid you like the plague! :p )

I have been faithfully heeding the sermons at O. L. O. A. C. ;)

Carl:D <--wondering if he is a bird or a wacko

Stomp, get your injectors tested. I know they dont have that many miles on them, but they could be popping low, which will take your mileage through the floor. I had a 93 W350 CC, 5spd, 4. 10, that had gotten down to 13-14mpg. I finally said enough, and had the tips cleaned and reset. Went to 19mpg IN TOWN!! Oo. One of the best $100 I ever spent.

What kind of EGTs are you seeing at cruise? With the extra power, you will use it more in town, hard as you try not to. THere are just too many ricers and V8s that need put back in their places. :D I honestly dont think turning down your pump is the answer. It may actually hurt MPGs more. Have you tried switching fuel suppliers? Some fuel is better than others.

Mine finally topped 19mpg this week again. Maybe we're finally to summer fuel- it's been summer for a month, IMO. Now if I could just find a place out west... ... ... .

You're right, PAstor- loons and wackos. That is why you fit in so well, as do I.

Daniel

I agree with Daniel.

Generally speaking, a diesel with higher horsepower ability will be more efficient at reduced power levels... . all else being equal.

Keeping your foot out of it is the hard part.

I suggest changing your user name from Stomp to Feather.

:D

Jay

I agree with some of the above posts. I've found that my mpg is directly related to how much I romp the skinny pedal. The truck in my sig gets 17-18 not towing, and around 12 towing a heavy trailer. This is with 4. 10 gears and a need to hear my Cummins working. :D My preference would be to keep your power settings, and just try to restrain from using it as often. I could see how your injectors might be a separate issue though. :)

Now that I have thought about it my mileage started to go down after my HX40 install. Maybe because it takes the extra fuel to get it to spool. I had a H1c with a 12cm housing and now it has a 16cm housing on the HX40. Would it be beneficial to go to a smaller housing.

Looks like I may get to put it on the dyno either Tuesday or Wednesday. I am pretty stoked to see what it will do.

Stomp

Yeah thats it. Better just give it to me for shipping :) and reinstall the H1C!! I'm not too worried about fuel mileage. I'll show ya how much of a nice guy I am, I'll take it off your hands.

Let us know what you dyno, I'm interested. Bill
