Hi, I'm a new member/CTD owner. It's a 95 quadcab LB auto 100k.

The problem began with the torque converter going in and out of lockup on the highway. I took the truck where the dealer sent me and he adjusted the tv cable. This seemed to solve the problem but it came back. Now it's out of warranty so I will be doing all repairs. I purchased a Hayne manual as I do with any vehicle and it says to set the cable so that the throttle valve on the transmission is at full travel when throttle is wide open and when the throttle is at idle the tv is at the beginning of its travel. Come to find out the tv is only halfway back at WOT (no wonder it was shifting so soon). Also the button on the cable by the throttle won't push in to let me adjust it there, so I bent the bracket holding the cable on transmission (this is how the shop did it). Now it seems to shift okay except for WOT where it will stay in third til 65-70 (2750+ rpm) where it will hardly accelerate then suddenly starts popping in and out of O/D. I could probably readjust the bracket so the transmission gets less throttle signal, but then will the transmission be in danger because the clutch pressure is low? Is the Hayne correct or should I just set it where it works best? If the Hayne is correct what is wrong?

The button on the TV cable adjustment is normally hard to push in. I use a pair of smooth jaw pliers to squeeze it in.

Was the throttle cable recall ever done on your truck? The dealer should be able to check that for you.

Welcome to TDR. The most common reason for going in and out of l/u is actually your throttle position sensor (TPS). This little plastic gizmo is mounted on the side of your injection pump. They are not cheap to replace, but they are free to clean! :) You just remove it (2 bolts and a plug), and then clean the contact points with a good electrical parts cleaner (or brake cleaner will work). This is very easy and effective and I'd recommend doing it before messing with linkage any more.

Do check into the recall on throttle linkage; they have to do it for free and it should get done. There is information somewhere on this site about the specific bulletin number.

Also, invest in the Chrysler service manual for your truck. I believe they run about $100, but are well worth it. Of course, we're a pretty good resource too... :)

First of all, bend the linkage back like it was to start with.

You may have confusion about where the TV cable button actually is. The bump on the plastic cable end that appears to be the button is actually a housing for the button spring. The actual button is the flat spot on the other side of the cube like plastic part. I use a very small C-clamp (about 2" or 2 1/2") to push and hold the button while I'm adjusting it. If the transmission shop bent the linkage to adjust it, stay away from them.

Rhonda is correct about the TPS business and also about the real service manual. The aftermarket service manuals might be ok for use in a outhouse, but that's all they are good for.

You can take your VIN to the dealer to find out what recalls have been done on your truck.

Recall info

Go to the official dodge/chrysler website and there will be a site devoted to your recall info. Put in your VIN number components (it doesn't use the whole VIN number) and you should get an email about your recalls with numbers. It's the same process the dealer will use and if you print the email, your dealer should accept it as easily as if you were to have them mail you the same recall info.

Sorry I don't remember the website exactly but it should be easy to find from D/C website.

back in the saddle

no outstanding recalls. . . cleaned sensor, greased connector, re-bent bracket, set cable correctly(pushed actual button this time instead or spring housing), warmed transmission, mashed go-pedal, goes great. . . rockin ram!

thanks for all the advice everyone. already so glad I joined tdr.
