Just got my HX-40 and wanted to have Majestic work it before I install it. What's the recommended package? I saw several posts (can't find them now), where people said it cost them anywhere between 145 to 200 bucks to have it done. I just called Majestic and they want 250-300 bucks? Anyone want to help me here? Is there someplace else that does the comp prep/clipping?

Vaman--$310--clipped, bulleted both sides and some cold side work---that's what it cost me and I was told $200 by one of their guys before they even received it. They were supposed to call me and talk about the options available before they started-that got overlooked somehow and when they did call me it was practically finished--now I wasn't exactly thrilled with this maneuver as one could imagine, and I don't mind paying for work that should be done or I wanted to have done, but they should of called first--I probably would've done it anyway as the guy I talked to said all tweaking they do is well worth it. Now on the other hand it may not have to be done at all as few people say they have installed them without tweaking them and they run great, so there you have it. I did it to be a little different I just wish they would've called me before they started on it. No I didn't refuse to take it or get pi$$y with them, so no need to bash me too bad on this--OK guys---It should be here anyday and in the long run I'll be happy until some non tweaked HX40 slaps me around & then to the bar I go to cry in my beer---- chris

This is my opinion from years of dealing with turbo's balancing a turbo is on thing in fact I recommend it to anyone but as for clipping fins and lightening wheels that spell disaster I would never do that what will happen is one day when you least expect it boom there goes the charger for no apparent reason until you rememmber what was done to it by clipping fin you actually can reduce the efficiency if th turbo if it was me I would balance it and that is it if you do more you are asking for trouble just trying to save u guys some serious grief and headaches down the road Wiz1

Wiz 1--I thought that when they(Majestic) clip they change they fin degree from 8* to 9* or something like that(how's this done)--mine was bulleted both sides, clipped, balanced & some cold side work(don't remember what they called it) besides the fact that they make money doing this-I thought that this would give me a little better low end turbo response-why would they recommend it. In all honesty I know there are lots of setups that didn't massage the turbo & they work fine(I wanted to be a little different), so did I screw up major time here-I was told to do it and not to do it-but it was my decision to do it-chris

I ran my HX40-18 housing stock. Worked fine and I didn't see a good reason to spend a lot of money trying to outthink Holset/Cummins. I feel that if the HX40-16 is too "big" in stock form, it's too big, period. Either get more power, or stay with the HX35 and pick the right size turbine housing for it.
YMMV

I think what we are thinking, in the use of the word clip, may be different than what Majestic does, but am not sure. When I talked to them it sounded more like a machining process(maybe that's what clipping is--I don't know) that changed the fin angle, if I remember correctly. This sound different than what I would call a clip, which to me is cutting something off-can someone clarify this ro set me straight? thanks chris

I'm really up in the air about having it done now... 300 bucks is like half the price of a new turbo. I guess it all boils down to how much of a performance increase this will result in. As far as what the options are, I called Majestic and they are glad to explain exactly what they do over the phone (and of course they recommend all the options). If anyone has any before and after stories, how about posting them? Problem is, I'll probably end up having it done anyhow simply because, if I don't, every time I hear my turbo spin up I'll wonder if it could be doing more... go figure.

There was some confusion on the subject of clipping the turbine wheel. It [HX-40] supposedly has the best degree angle from the factory. Majestic does not alter the angle. They just lighten the wheel. Mine looks like it had been on a surface grinder. Very happy with the work that was done. Have not mounted it yet. If I blow into the exhaust housing, I can get the turbine to spin. #ad

I was charged $285 for everything too. Much more than was originally talked about in the forums. They machine the cold side intake to accept the OE Dodge Air Intake hose. Much better than a "as cast" surface. Only got one bullet. It looks like they remove the OE bolt holding turbine wheel to its shaft, and replace it will a high strengh light weight aluminum billet type material. They look like a nose cone on an older jet engine.

Like Articat said, Sportbike said Majestic's work made a big difference in spool-up time. Check out the older threads in Products & Accessories.

When I ordered my turbo from Sportbike I called Majestic to ask about the price. It was more than had been posted in earlier posts. I was told some Majestic guys were doing the work on the side or something to that effect. But now they were having to do so many the guys couldn't keep up-thus price increase of $50. 00 clams. OK, but then it went up $110 after that for me, so there's what I know. I hope it's worth it, but for that much extra I have my doubts!! remember part of the cost includes shipping-----chris

Go read sportbike's old posts about Majestic. He ran an HX40 with and without their work, and he was pretty clear in saying that it was worthwhile. He did tell me not to get the wheel clipped though. I just got mine back and they seem to have done some very carefull machine work, the bullets are pretty cool. Also I had my intake side turned down so the air filter hose would be a nice fit ala stock. Not functionaly necessary but just looks and feels nicer.
