Suggest you use a amp meeter after disconnect the battery(s) and then check black and red to determine the ground . Most times when black and red are used to gather Red if hot Black in ground . Not always ,thats why you need that Amp meeter . Use the tan wire for power and no need for fuse panel you can use in line fuse at each gauge if you want or none . Start over on the brake light wire install of the brake lights . You may need to use a larger wire on the 55w lights or use a relay for power . Sounds like a ground problem caused by added wire best to start over after ungrudging the battery(s) as above and using a Amp meeter. Ron in Louisville KY:confused:   :(

Ron,

Thanks for the imput.

the red and black wires are for the illumination of the gages. It doesn't matter which way you hook it up to source and ground. it now works fine. the 55 watt BACKUP light bulbs are installed in the rear tailight assy and are not part of an aditional brake light assy.

Sorry that the previous posts were so confusing. Me bad
