Where to find used catalytic conveter

When setting up twins have people found it best to wrap the hot pipe from the two turbos to help keep the heat in the pipes? Also how about the cold piping? I thought I remember reading somewhere that exhaust wrap can help a turbos efficiency. Could be smoking crack to though :-laf

It actually helps keep heat off the firewall and it bakes the firewall pad and makes it fall apart, I do remember making it smoke at one time because it's close to it, a simple header wrap job takes care of it but I did paint my pipe with eastwood high temp paint prior to the wrap.

Cracker, I still haven't popped a 40 yet..... it works great!

You guys keep refering to a hx-40, I am running a HTB2, that is supposed to be stronger than a 40, correct? And Doesnt it flow better?

Patrick, will the twins fit in that Chevy or will you need the hot nippers to make'em fit? Remember, we want pics. We saw this truck at the RMTDR Xmas party, it's very impressive.

jim,

i said i was just joking about the 40. everyone is so scared of the 40 popping and they have. i hear the stock ones are real bad popping but a balanced one will last. i think for a long time that was our only choice and they were used on applications where now we have baby hx55's, sledpuller66, bell usb etc. They were grossly mismatched. The 40 is a great top turbo.

Yea everyone talks crap about them but what they don't realize is it's not working with Twins, at 20 psi total boost(big turbo combined) the gate starts opening and at 40 psi it totally open, I'd be willing to bet at 80 psi on my setup it's doing little of nothing as the B/B puts out 38 psi from a 3. 5 wheel, that's a ton of air and I know not many if any hit harder than mine on spoolup..... of course I'm only making a little power.

there has always been some mystery as to which turbo to put on top. i think by now everyone has seen the ht3b/22/24/26 to be a great bottom turbo. the top on the other hand is always a ? really depends how much cash you got. its my understanding that one should pick a turbo thats small enough to spool good but big enough to get out of the way so the air can spool big brother on the bottom. so on a 12v, stageII ported, oringed, moderate fueling (like my truck but with laser cuts) on a budget an stock hx35/16 and ht3b/22. would be a choice. what do you think jim? do you think the 22 housing on ht3b is a good choice with the 16 on top to relieve extreme back pressure with this fueling. now on a non budget more heavily fueled (piers stupid pump or a tweaked 215) a killed b2 clipped/14 on top with ht3b/26. just thinking out loud here.

Thats a good question as to the exhaust housing size on the top turbo, I have been wondering if I should go with a 14 on top instead of my 12. Jim you seem to be in the know, but than again you are only making "a little power" ;)

This setup was a stock 35 with an 18. 5 and a PDR 3BA/26, it started it's life as a 35/16, the 16 was fine till 65 psi then it started going south fast, the 18. 5 made 65 the optimal boost as at 70 it was going south fast, this is were the 40/BB shines as it is still going strong at 80. Comparison between the two setups is the same air temp at the hat but at 15 psi more boost with the 40/BB.

I actually don't see an issue with the 3B/26 as it is the middle of the road, some guys like the Georgia bunch use a 32 but I never tried one. I like the idea if a 35/14-3B/26, if setup correctly it could support allot of power. My old setup went to 670HP on #2

I have a project truck that is at 500 using a stock 35/18. 5 that would be a good twin test but he has a lack of funds for Twins now.

A few questions that comes to mind for all of you homebrewers of twins, where is the best place to get a flange for the BHT3B for mounting the exhaust pipe of the little turbo to it? Also what about a oil return flange? Granted all of these could be homemade but sometimes it is alot quicker to have these things already. One more question what size is the intake of the BHT3B? Thanks.
