Instead of studying, I am thinking about more mods on the '92 (as usual). I was wondering if a Banks Twin Ram air intake would fit on the '92??? The tech guy at Bank's said no. But after a casual observation I can't see any difference between the '92 and '94 intake manifolds. A few modifications don't scare me, but a complete redesign is ruled out for now. Or would a '94 or newer 12 valve ported head from Piers be a better idea? Well I had better get back to statistics(Man, does it ever stink). :D

Or does anyone know of someone or have pictures of a twin ram intake on a 1st generation?

I've no idea if the banks manifold would fit, but I think I'd get the ported head if it was me.

(who's thinking about more mods to his own '92 instead of working :D )

Back to the top. I am just curios because the 2nd generation guys have noticed a difference in milage and boost. So I figured this setup might be beneficial to our trucks. Maybe I will just have to buy one for the wife's truck and try to put it on mine first.

From what I've seen in the TDR magazine, it distributes the air better throughout the cylinders to keep the temperatures across all 6 the same.

Intake Manifolds

I was just wondering, does anyone know if the intake manifold on a 1992 B5. 9 is the same as the intake manifold on a 1994 B5. 9? I know the '94 has a support sticking up that holds the oil dipstick, but other than that I can't see any difference. Also, I wonder if the intercooler pipes on the drivers side of the engine is different between the two years. Thanks for the help. It sounds like I may get to do some R&D this winter :D

Plumbing

The intercooler piping is different on the 1994 trucks, their pipe off the manifold comes down at an angle and out at one too. Not a difficult problem to solve. The other thing I thought of was will the injector lines work? With the inline pump, I would think that they would be different.

Anyway, I'm here too thinking of 1992 mods when there are a million other things I need to do but if my truck went faster, I could get those other thing done sooner..... right? :p

Injector Lines

R. E. Miller,

I checked the wifes '94 and my '92, if I remember correctly, the injector line cross the intake manifold in the same spots on both trucks. Hopefully that won't be a problem. As for the intercooler pipe, I think the '92s could be cut and rewelded or if the chnage in direction is slight, it could be cut and another rubber boot put on. I think this setup would look nice on a 1st gen and our engines need all of the help they can get to make more power.

Sounds good, you could also use pipe fittings from donaldson, nelson or even turbonetics might sell just what you need to change the angle enough.

Good Luck!

Banks Twin Ram Intake on First Generation

After reading Case500d's posting, I fabricated as necessay to install the Banks intake on my 93D350. The hardest step of the installation was fabricating the replacement intake manifold. The Banks manifold will not clear the rear three injector lines. Many other steps were involved to make this work, fabricating injector line supports, remounting heater grids into Banks manifold, lengthening wiring for heater grids, remounting air temp sensors, fabricating intercooler pipe,cutting/rewelding Banks manifold inlet elbow. The end result was lower EGT's, mine used to go well over 1000 degrees with a hard pull, now stays under 900 degrees, less smoke, smoother running. (Case500d, want to add photo's as necessary?). E-mail me if more info needed. Rick.
