Competition HT3B Inducer Size?

Competition not diesel but still cool

It's a Microsoft Word document so you'll have to right click and save as. DF, superb job on the finals paper! Thanks for the link to the "Final" draft.

Merry Christmas!

Richard

I must say, well done. The application of 2 stage turbocharging is difficult at best, and after many discussion with many "experts" they finally admit it is a difficult engineering study. Most admit that it will take 2-3 shots to get close, let alone optimized.

Next project? Do the calculations for turbo sizing when using intercooling between stages. Watch the turbo sizes change again.

Great work!

interstage cooling can make a big difference, you can see density ratio go up some more almost to 7:1. But you run out of room under the hood real quick.

The real tricky part is the turbine and turbine housing fitment. You have about three turbine options and three housing options for each turbine from Turbonetics!!!!!

Way to go DF! Congratulations! Since your the wizard now, what do you think of the PDR HX-40/HT3B combo? :-laf

Richard

Agree on the 3B being small for a HX40 (in a generic answer). Where the issue comes in is response and spool up time. The ideal match at full power will not be very driveable. The best response matched setup will not be good at max power. Now, get the variable geometry, or large wastegates, and trim it to make it work. It is all a compromise.

What is good, is that there are a lot of different people trying different set ups. Each has it's own strengths. There is no "one size fits all".

Yes, you should have received a "A" for the paper... Did the teacher have a clue on the content?

Great work.....

Diesel Freak -

Right on. I am surprised you wrote a "technical" paper for an English class - but nonetheless, NUMBERS and EQUATIONS rule. . !! (sorry, engineer / nerd reaction. . )

That being said - a data driven approach to plumbing in a set of twins is the "correct" approach, IMHO. . I dislike qualitative assessments with these expensive experiments. ... . if only we could get more technical - more mapping, instrumented comparisons, and such. . (Imagine mapping sequential compressors for comparison. . ???) People would be able to buy the best kit available, not just the one with the most HYPE... . :--)
