Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Twin Turbo's?

Just want some input about turbos. Why do they run a HX40 turbo on a twin setup when they have a higher tendency to break? All I heard was HX40 is good to 450 to 500 hp and under for a single charger but why put them on a twin setup? Just looking to add twins.



What I want to run is Mach 6’s, Cam, Springs, Nitrous, Twins, O-ring head + Head studs, HRVP and a ATS intake With my Power Max Drag Race 3 Box and Edge Ez. What would be a great setup to go with? If I left anything out just ask. I do have the bug again!!

Each turbo does a lot less work when used in twins therefore the 40 lives a fairly easy life. Instead of 40psi as a single it does roughly 15-25psi in twins. You cant spool it as fast because the primary provides it air and it has to spool before the whole set up can take off.



You'll go over 700hp with that combo providing everything is setup right.

I would keep your HX40 for a top charger and add a larger bottom charger (B2,or 3B)

that is a common set-up, with Mach 6's and a a Box should give you 600hp

I think what i would do is but a B2 below it. Click on this link to see a Dodgezilla and a B2 twin set up... . Power by Poole ..... and call olee and he will get you to 600HP

Next question is if you use a HX40 in a twin setup will it spool faster than if you just run a single HX40 turbo? Just want to see every advantage of running twins….

With the same fueling the spool up will be around 1-200 rpm's slower. For the first 10-15psi the boost it's slower than a single and then the fun begins because from 15-65/70psi is almost immediate. Typically people up their fueling when going to twins and see almost zero difference in spool up.

RE: Phat Shaft 64

You may want to use a Phat Shaft 64. It's capable of 600+ hp and much less money than twins. It spools like a smaller single but has a lot of the qualities of a Super Phat Shaft 66. And in our testing we have found it to be free of comp surge and we have used the extreme duty bearings which make it very durable. This turbo works very well on 2nd gen. trucks. It might be worth a look! Thanks
