How does this sound for a cheap easy twin setup with stuff I already have. . a stock '92 wh1c, add a with a 12cm wastegated housing as small turbo, and my hx55 22cm exhaust housing as bigger turbo. . looking for small towing like twin setup. . its a 5 spd truck. . 5 " turbo back exhuast etc

any ideas how it will work?

Thanks,

Deo

Well my signature has "had" before that twin setup, so it is no longer there. . I put the hy35 on my tdi rabbit pickup and I have the other turbos listed in the above post. . I would like a improvement though, compared to hy35 and hx55 and I'm on a tight budget... I do like the 5" outlet on the hx55 as my exhaust is 5" turbo back if I could find a smaller 5" turbine then my 22cm one on it I would like that better. just looking for ideas on how it might work...

Thanks

Deo

I would doubt you would see a huge improvement by going to an HX over an HY. It would spool slower as well. But im sure it would be better than the hx by itself!!

If you still already have all the piping and stuff, might as well give it a shot. Nothin to loose the way I see it. .

From what I've read the HY35/HX55 may not be the best twins setup but the combo sounds alot like what the BD twins are. I'd like to here what BD's twins are built from. I have a HY35 and the HX55 sitting on a shelf and would love to set them up as twins.

Well I had that setup on my '89 it didn't have enough fuel with my pods to really wake it up, it wasn't tooo great. . the boost was about 35-45 psi and I never had the waste gate rigged up correctly just j hook on it. my external waste gate was never hooked up. I also had a boost leak at my home made metal air intake horn etc. The trans was a stock 727 with a shift kit and it reved pretty good. but i am sure it wasted a lot of power in slipping. I have a p pump and parts to convert it then, I am sure the fuel would be there...

Thanks,

Deo

I believe BD uses modified S300s top and bottom.

Thats what I've read. I'd like to know exactly what they've done to the bottom S300 to allow them to run the same turbo top and bottom. I'l like to build a similar setup for my dually as my first attempt with twins.

The top is an S300g (57mm comp wheel?). If the bottom is an S300, probably something with a 66mm wheel or so. I doubt they are ideally matched.

Depends on the power level and RPM band you want to run.

Take for instance my setup... the top turbo has a 59mm inducer (basicly a 58 pound per minute wheel) and the bottom has a 74mm inducer (a 98 pound per minute wheel)

The setup runs from 1600-3200 rpm and cam support enough power to keep me happy (for now)

Try runing the HX-55 as a single... can't hurt. It'll be very laggy but it all depends on what you want to do with it.

OR - just wait until you've outfueled your WH1C. I'm way past that point with my WH1C, but it's still a blast to drive until the EGTs get up there.

IMHO - the WH1C and HX-55 are just way too close in size to make a good set of twins...

man but thats no fun i like having my 5" fender well outside frame exhaust hehe... i thought about finding a hx55 turbine that was say 18. 5 cm and still had teh 5" outlet and yeah i would run it as a single that would be cool. . i do know this '92 with the stock 21 cm housing is aslug with a stock tune never touched engine/ pump... phew my stock '89 would have smoked this one easy. . i think the hx55 with the 22 housing will be even laggyer... . oh well its all fun either way maybe my garret from the series 50 natural gas engine is a htb3 size ?. . it doesn't look that big . . mummn

thanks,

ok here ya go. . It was from series %0 natuarl gas generator. . the 4cyl version of the 12. 7 series 60 detroit. . any how its a garrett with allied signal part # PN - 991709c92

SN - BEL 24246

Compressor says a/r of . 58 Turbine says a/r of 1. 19

the compressor has 6 12point bolts around the outside of the snail holding it together. the exhaust looks liek 3 or maybe 4" outlet for a band clamp

it may be decent but looks about HX55 size. .

let em know

thanks

DF what turbo's are you running in your twin setup?

Top turbo is a hybrid ADP Built HX40 with a non wastgated 16cm H1C eshaust housing.

Bottom is a Garrett GT42 (the big 102mm wheel) with either the 1. 15 or 1. 01 AR exhaust housing.

I am currently running the 1. 01 AR housing and have the GT42 wastgated to 25 psi... total boost is 52-55 psi. This turbo MUST BE WASTGATED!!!!

Good for an uncorrected 528 HP (Peak). Continuous power level is 450 or so.

The 1. 15 AR housing would prolly allow another 10 HP or so at the same boost pressure.

A hybrid like a 35/40? Or are you running the 40 turbine with the H1C housing machine to fit?

i do know this '92 with the stock 21 cm housing is aslug

didnt the 92's have an 18. 5cm housing on them stock?? Or did the 89's and stuff have the 18. 5?

nope the '89 thru 91. 5 non intercooled had 18. 5s 91. 5 intercooled thru 92 and i think 93 had the 21. . itell ya my '89 stock before i touchedf it was way more powerful then the 92 5spd. heck the 89 would whip into donut burn out with ease . . ha . . the 92 is like press the pedal down and nothing . . eek... i hope to change that very shortly hehe...

thanks
