Thanks, TDR Staff

Need 5" stacks with flappers

DD2's in now ????

No reason to waste good boost by dumping it all out the exhaust.

Once upon a time(Feb 03) I changed mine over from the turbo to turbo stuff and dropped 250 degrees of EGT... ... think it works.

Ok...

I need to know what you guys are talking about so we can get on the same page.

Which system is better??? A staged system that utilizes an external wastegate that is plumbed to dump the exhaust between the turbos, or a system that uses a modified top turbo that has a wastegated housing???

Now that you mention it! I do seem to remember someone with a piece of flex pipe connected to a wastegate and they ran it all the back into the down pipe.

Keep up the good work Jim.

Hows the intercooler working?

Bill

I ran mine to the down pipe when I first build it(my first setup) then changed it over to the divorced setup after a few months after I found out who really came up with the idea..... this very change is what brought on a change (during building) to the most popular Twin setup now... . yes I had my hands in it a little.

My EGT's were so high before it I had to do the test in valet mode.

The Intercooler is working great but I have another one to test when I get back home..... yes two different ones were built and the better of the two will go into production.

Jim

I understand there is a third way that is pretty good as well. Both turbos have wastegates !!! I think there is at least one vendor selling that setup. Jim, can you elaborate on what you mean by divorced setup ? I am confused !!!

Maybe I'll just come down and have you install a set Fred. ;)

BTW, am going to be at speedworld this Friday evening drag racing if you are interested in watching your transmission try and break into the 12's. :D

Hey Josh, Have you made any passes yet with the new transmission? I've been talking to John (Floor It) about some turbo mods and bigger injectors but I know that I'm just prolonging the inevitable. Either way I'm planning on studs and o-ringing this Dec. and possibly some head work. Keep us posted on your decision, I'm right behind you.

Adam

No actual runs at the track at this time. Friday evening will be the first time. I have made a bunch of launches and as always the DTT transmission performs flawlessly (is that even a word?).

I think when the twins do happen, I'll just do studs for a while. Hold the twins to 55 psi or so and try to keep the headgasket in there for a while.

Good Luck. You should PM Rhonda. She gave me some tips on a post of mine a while back after I first ran my truck that shaved off almost 4/10ths off my E/T the next time out! As far as my HG goes, I've been abusing it at 50psi for a while now and I just need to get it out of the way before I do anything else to the engine. By the way, did you get the new parts for your turbo yet?

Adam

No, have never replaced the cracked exhaust housing. Knock on wood, still going strong. I have chatted with Rhonda many times and others about what to do at the track, and have been practicing those procedures a lot. We'll see what happens.

You get two flanges that match the HX and the exhaust housing and a 2. 5" by 2" piece of Tube Steel and cut it on a 45 degree angle (I think it was 45???) on each end to move the HX horizontally towards the passenger fender. You then add a riser pipe and attach the external WG to it and then plumb it in to the hot pipe between the little charger and the big one.

Check out prorams (Scott @ RDP) gallery i think he has a picture of how he did his...

So you do use a thicker spacer. When I talked to Bell turbo he said something about welding the waste gate either into the exhaust manifold or the exhaust housing. I don't remember which. I finally got some filler rod that works on cast iron, but I still don't like doing it. I guess buying a wastegate would be the first step. I wonder if there would be any advantage to having a large external instead of the reworked wastegate on the 14 housing. There is also room to weld a boss on to the exhaust manifold and put a large hole there. Sorry, I'm thinking on the keyboard.

I have a friend that just used a regular wire in a mig welder to weld on the cast "steel" 14 non wategated housing.

I did see on Olee's website that a waste gate could be welded to the center section of an exhaust manifold.
