It would be nice if they added an external wastegate. The lack of one is keeping me from choosing this kit over others.
Speaking of others don't all the other production kits have one? I think this may be the only one that doesn't

piers kit does not have a external gate, nor does anything from scheid diesel, in fact when I talked to scheid they dont use an internal or external gate on the secondary turbo! both those guys know how to make power!

What if you want to stay at or below 50 lbs, do you do that by turning the power down?

I think I remember reading a while back that if you bleed off boost under cruise conditions you can gain some mpg.

Some people can probably just do it with throttle discipline, of course I am not one of those people.

IIRC. .

You can buy a set of Scheid twins now with the external wastegate and Borg Warner turbos both top and bottom (speaking of their bolt on sets).

I believe that should read primary, or bottom turbo.

I dont think anybody is puting a wastegate on the primary, that would dump to your tailpipe, maybe, but you would be moving alot of air to need that.

jwilliams,

it was awhile ago when I spoke with them. they told me that the set they use had no wastegate internal/external, they just match the exhaust housing for the hp you were looking for.

If you use no wastegate on your secondary it should have a larger housing than the primary you're running with it in order to create equal pressures. Otherwise you'll have an overspeed on your top charger and the bottom would be coasting along.

 I dont know what scheid was using. If you used a larger housing on your top then your bottom, it would seem to be incredibly laggy. I dont think you could put it on the street, the turbo's would not light. without the gate I think you are restricting flow, creating back pressure and raising boost without any benefit.

sounds cool like " man my truck makes 100psi of boost"

I had a guy at the gas stations ask me "how much boost does it make" . thinking that more is better, that is not necessarily true.

They would if the two turbos were small enough. Check out the turbine on the primary of the BD twins you'll see what I'm talking about. The rest of that post i'm in total agreement with. More boost = more power

I know everyone has their opinions as to what works. The twins on my truck perform flawlessly. Sure, there could of been an external gate added, but why? With the stock wastegate and the blow off valve I spike 60 psi and hold 55-57psi. Ive seen some other twin kits and they are quality pieces, but why would spend more money for the same power or less in most cases ive seen. I think sometimes when something works well and cost less people get leary of it,Ive had my set up picked apart on this web site many times ,but it doesnt bother me,i wish my job permitted me to attend more dyno events,i would to see how my twins compared to other sets, then i would like to take it to the track. Ive only seen one common rail that could out run me and he runs the same set up,so i think the artic airs work pretty good.

Sounds good! I hear you on the..... if it works don't bother it, just wondered.

Jim Jones (Red Duramax) told me about that street race at the D/FW dyno event you guys had... ... . I miss all the real fun!
