Ok, I'm confused. I got a p0216 code recently at 77,000mi. , I took the truck to the dealership and told them the problem (dead pedal, surging, white smoke when warm, the normal symptoms) they had the truck for about 4 hours and called me saying it was done, they replaced the lift pump ONLY and said the VP was fine. I drove away considering I could have been wrong. I start leaving work and is starts doing it again, I took it back and told them I was getting the same code after they had cleared codes, "they checked it and the VP is fine. " I thought they were jerking me around scared they would get burned on the reimbursement from Cummins. As of now the symptoms haven't returned at all (3 weeks). Should I still worry about it dieing on me?

OK, now down to business. I want twins!!!!! For no real reason other than the sounds they make, just to be able to say that I have them, and the occasional rice burner, mustang, and especially my powerstroke and duramax friends that I would like to embarass and leave in a cloud of smoke.

This truck is my daily driver, so it must remain extremely reliable, fuel economy has to be as good as it is now or close to it, when driven sensibly,(20mpg avg. +/-), and most importantly it has to be driveable, I don't want to have to watch the EGT gauge like a hawk. Normal driving for me is about 70% city (40-55mph avg. ), 25% highway(70-75mph) and 5% towing (almost always through the mountains with a trailer weighing less than 7k lbs. )

I would just like to know what works and what everyone thinks will be the best setup for my application. Everything I need to buy. I would like to keep this as cost efficient as possible but I know that you get what you pay for, so nothing "cheap" unless its cheap and high quality.

Thanks a whole lot in advance.

For the 0216 code, I can't imagine that SOMETHING in the VP44 didn't get hurt... anytime fuel pressure drops too low, it's sheer luck if you don't hurt it somehow.

As for twins, if you want something inexpensive, daily drivable, and good performance/egt reduction, just throw an HT3B beneath your stock turbo, and maybe change the top turbo's housing to a 14cm turbine or something for a little better flow on top. That would be your best bet, and just about any twin builder can set you up with that for fairly cheap, and quick. Many (if not most) people use Piers' twin kits with great results. I have a custom PDR twin setup that I have yet to install.

Excellent, what did you pay for you twins, if you don't mind. I would like to make some pretty serious power in the future (hopefully near future) I'm planning on the OFE, a Drag Comp, maybe Mach 3's or better, and whatever turbos will fit my application best, the setup you described may be something to look into.

Thanks.
