I'm unhappy to report that I have two problems with the new truck @ 534 miles.

1. Slight vibration at 70~75 MPH. Not the tires or drive shaft. Some trucks had bad front drive shafts that had problems.

2. Hesitation under acceleration most noticeable in 2nd and 3rd gear. Almost acts like fuel starvation.

Truck is being diagnosed at the dealer now.

AHHhhh - the old hesitation problem first noted on 2nd gen 24 valve trucks is still alive and well - as is the vibration problem on earlier 3rd gennies - wonder if the answers will EVER be found... ?

Was the front drive shaft ever found to be bad? I remember a number of people reporting finding a F or R in hand writting on it and thinking it meant fail or reject.

According to my dealer they had one last month that had a bad front driveshaft. Is not the case with my truck though. . . .

Mines 2wd, and I don't have the vibration, but I do have a hesitation sometimes between say 1500-2500 RPM-while accelerating-seems more pronounced at part throttle-I can see the tach jumping slightly. The only stored code is P0514 (Battery Temperature Sensor Performance / Rationality). I don't think that is related. It does not do it all the time either. It is fully warmed up when it does it. This hesitation is noticeable, but tolerable.

Afacey, does this sound like yours?

RobertBolinger-

It does sound similar. The hesitation does not occur when cold - only when at normal operating temp. Any hesitation - even the slightest bit is a problem for me. I can't imagine what it would do with a load. I hope they can figure it out... .

04 3500 4X4 with 7K miles on the clock. No vibrations at all at any speed(0-100+). The off the line hesitation in 2nd gear has been there from day one. In the last 2K miles seems to be going away. I'm convinced it is a light fueling condition, most likely to improve emissions. As the engine loosens up it tends to deminish. The old 99 never had the hesitation this bad but the TST box solved all.

Mine does not do it at full throttle, so the light fueling condition that jackcaptjr mentions may be it. Afacey, I'm going to tow next week, so we will see how it does under load. If it is something that will go away in 7000 miles I can easily tolerate it-I have had it 10 days and already have 1000 on it

Let me add that the vibration is also present in another "new" 600 on the lot. I drove it. So it isn' just mine.

Some of the trucks had a vibration issue that was corrected by a dampner on the ps boost hose. It fixed mine.

Well here it is -- the answer from the dealer:

The vibration: They cannot figure it out. They have a regional guy coming in to take a look at it. They have 2 other trucks on their lot that do the same thing. ... (Shame on me for not test driving at speeds over 70 MPH. I would have noticed it. )

The hesitation: Dealer claims they checked every possible item, then called their "star center"? and was told lots of people are complaining about the same thing. DC supposedly has a software fix coming out in mid March to fix the issue.

I'm really disappointed ~ I hope this doesn't turn out to be another big error like ford...

Hesitation

Are you feeling the hesitation at the point of upshift? I wonder if it is the shift point mapping. I thought the 600 had timing intervention during upshifts to give a smoother shift with less clutch wear. Timing intervention is old technology, has been used for years by BMW, Mercedes, Lexus & others. BMW in particular can feel a little odd at times, almost like the shift point & the timing retard are not in sych, the car feels like it loses power & then surges during upshifts under constant throttle.

The hesitation is duplicated by these steps:

1. Drive truck for about 15~20 minutes or til normal op temp.

2. My truck is auto so; put truck in 2nd gear

3 let it lug or drive at low rpm for a moment or so, then accelerate. It will hesitate. 3-4 times then clean up once full throttle is reached.

I am familiar with this-allows a smaller trans to be used, but mine is a manual-hopefully the fix discussed in March will fix.

Afacey, these problems are minute compared to Fords!

PapaPerk reported having the same issue over at the DTR. I hope this issue gets solved quickly and correctly. This is Dodge Cummins time to really shine and I hope they can take full advantage of it.

This sounds frighteningly like the Ford 6. 0 problems.

(Sorry... someone had to say it)

OK rbattelle, maybe you're joking, but I beg to differ. They aren't filling the crankcase with #2 (not likely given different injector design) and not seizing main bearings because somebody forgot to polish something on either 10,000 engines or 200 engines depending on who you believe!
