I've been in looking for the ideal Turbo, as have many of you. On a whim I called a distributor I found on the web who sells most all brands. He told me of two new Holset Turbos that are coming out supposedly in the next 30 days. The one is called the Super 40. It is wastegated at 40psi,. . imagine that! It is to have improved spoolup and cooling and is to be a direct bolt on for our trucks. Part Number is 4027888. That is Holset's number. Dodge will no doubt put another number on it. The other Turbo is classified for X-treme HP and Off-Road only. It is called a Pro 52. He didn't have the part number on it yet. Both are suppose to be out in the next month. Oo.

Holset turbo

Who is the dealer selling these turbos? I may be interested in up grading my turbo soon. The more options the better.

J. R. Adkins and I have been watching these turbo's pretty close. About 3 weeks ago, the exhaust housings were still being cast.

The Pro 52 will not be a direct bolt-in, it will require an adaptor.

The Super 40's MAP starts much sooner, and is much, much wider than a standard 40.

I'll have to check on where they are in production, but they are for sure a go from Holset.

ATS Might be coming out with a wayy cool manifold, but I haven't seen anything from them yet.

The B-1s are too expensive. The turbo I would be interested in would be the one waste gated for arround 40-45 psi . I am only going to be running between 400-450 hp. TST on level 5/5.

Go to Holset.com and follow the dealer locator for the one nearest you. The guy I talked with was Andre' at 866-217-5866. The company is called Turbo Exchange.

Tks for reminding me,... the Super 40 is wastegated at 40psi, FYI.

Holset sent me one of the first HX52 made to test. I was surprised at how responsive it was for a big turbo. It worked great at 50lbs boost... . went boom at 62lbs though :--) I'm still waiting for the next shipment to come in from jolly old England.

Is the HX52 the same Turbo as the Pro 52? Have you tested the Super 40? Did you get any specs on either/or both you can share with us? Did they provide pricing? Pls advise.

What happens exactly when it goes boom? I haven't been fortunate enough to bomb a diesel yet but have worked on many over the years. havent had much experience with waste gates either. I understand the principals behind the wastegate though, but am very curious about the boom factor and subsequent damage.

generally, when a turbo goes boom, it either snaps the shaft or thrusts really bad (pushes one of the wheels into its respective housing. caused by overspinning.

a wastegate simply bypasses some of the exhaust gas around the turbine wheel... this keeps the shaft speed and therefore boost at a given level. shaft speed is the killer, and you can "push" a turbo the same way we all "push" our hot rodded trucks, but they will take a dump on you if you spin 'em too hard.

Please elaborate?

Stock manifold, stock junk turbo's and penny pinch everywere..... yes it can be done but I've seen that type of setup and it will not perform nor spool quick or do what Twins are suppose to do... ... you ever wonder why I changed my first Twin setup to the way it was and still is, even on that setup using a stock top turbo I still couldn't get the cost to this level and that's not counting the 3K worth of tools I used or shop time or the two weeks I spent gathering parts... ... or labor (pay yourself)

I've had people here on this board E-mail me back and tell me what a pain is was to build them... ... . why do you think I don't do it for the public.

Harry,

Is the Super 40 Turbo released yet? I am trying to research my options for replacing stock turbo. Is this truely a replacement of the stock unit? No other changes required?

Thanks, Jeff

I just recieved a pro 52, still waiting on the adapters. The super 40 is still no where in sight, hopefully soon. It won't be a direct replacement, but they fit with a few mods.
