Dodge hitch snaps in half........

Wing things (or whatever they're called!)

My Father in law and I are considering both trucks being able to pull our yet to be purchased 5er. His truck a 99 4x4 (2500 cummins of course) with a 3:55, all stock. Mine a 96 2x4, read sig for mods. My concern is in the difference in hieght between us. If we set the trailer up (i. e. flipping axels and blocks, etc. ) for his hieght, it's not gonna sit good with me. Someone suggested raising the hieght of my hitch 6 or so inches to match his. How is this done and are there any disadvantages to be concerned with? It would seem to me that it would obviously increase drag, what about gravity center?

I tow a 26. 5T Terry 5er with the axles flipped and it tow fine. If you both want to be able to tow the trailer, then set it up correctly for the 4x4 and the set the hitch in the 2x4 high to allow it to tow level. I have a Hijacker hitch and it has a large amount of hitch height adjust available. Snow King

On the Reese hitch there are holes on the side of the yoke for adjustment. I adj'ed mine to give me 6" clearance at bed and I almost ride level. My fiver has 15" wheels which I thought would ride lower than it does. Pulling the speed limit it feels good. The only thing I'm going to do to smooth out the ride is install the Kelderman Air Ride system, where the air bags fit on the hitch and connect to the shackles.

You really need to measure just how much difference there is between the two trucks. I flipped the axles on my fiver, and I have the hitch as high as it will go to ride level (any lower and it's nose down). I have a reese 15k hitch, but maybe there are others which will adjust higher. Some fifth wheels also have adjustable (sliding) kingpins which you could use to lower the pin, although it would be kind of a pain to do this every time you wanted to adjust it (maybe not, just looks like it'd be a pain, but if you did it when new and kept the sleeve greased, might not be too much trouble).

edit: I meant sliding kingpin arms/sleeves or whatever they're called...
