I have the U-connect option on my lame RB4 with a wantabe GPS navigation.

Since I want to use the hands free bloototh connection for my ceell phone how does it work?

Anyone use it? how about pro's - con's.

I have the uconnect on my truck and use it daily. It is a great feature.

First you have to have a phone that is bluetooth compatible. Any type of PDA phones like the Palm treo and Blackberry will not work.

Basically you just sync the phone with the Uconnect and set the phone settings desired and it works.

When you set up the phone you can tell it to be discoverable at all times. This will allow the Uconnect to connect every time you start your vehicle.

When a call comes in your phone will ring over your driver side speaker. To answer just press the Uconnect button and you will hear 3 beeps and you are ready to talk. It will auto mute your radio and you hear them through the speaker. When you are done it will hang up as soon as the other person does or you just hit the Uconnect button to hang up.

When making calls you can either use your phone to dial and you will hear it ring over the speaker, or you can press the Uconnect button and say "Dial" and then the number you want it to dial. It will read back the number to you and just follow the prompts.

If you are having a really hard time with it and have a Bluetooth enabled phone PM me and I will send you my phone number and help walk you through all of the functions and set up.

We have the uconnect in our car and works very well and is easy to set-up and easier to use. One little piece I saw in the NYT tech page a few weeks ago said that some one in Brazil has already figured out a virus for these cell phones, all you have to do is to have the phone on and be in the vicinity of the virus (around 30'). I doubt that this is much of a problem yet, but it is something to think about.

That is the best description of U-Connect I have read. You should have written the owners manual. Oo.

Thank you very much.

Makes me feel beter knowing my RB4 may be worth the extra $$$$$$

Of to ATT to purchase a new Bluetooth phone.

Phone

I have cingular and own a Nokia 6230 and it works great.

One other thing that I had to call uconnect to figure out. When you shut off the truck the Uconnect WILL stay on until the call is ended.

But, if you want to continue the call and disconnect from the uconnect and transfer the call back to the phone you hit the litte voice skip button. It will beep once then you say "Transfer Call". It will say call transfered and you can start talking on your phone without loosing the call or having to hang up and call them back.

I should be home all day, so PM me if you need help. I will be happy to call you or vice/versa to help with set up.

NNelson: I am assuming you have the DC aftermarket UConnect kit, and not the built-in OEM option as I was advised it was not made available until just a few months ago on Rams. I have a '04. 5 Laramie with every option but could not get the Bluetooth to save my life. To add insult to injury, the aftermarket Dodge UConnect is double the price of the OEM factory unit, and is nowhere near as nice.

I just came back from the Cingular store and swapped my old ATT phone over to a new Motorola MPx220. It will not find the trucks bluetooth connection. Do I have to set anything on the RB4? The wifes phone is the same new one as mine and each phone can find each other but not the truck.

Damn technology #@$%!

I never got a factory book on the RB4 head unit unit when my ordered 05 came in 2 weeks ago.

Alan

Hate to tell you

The MPX 220 has PDA style software and will not work. I went and bought one right after they came out. Fought with it for 2 weeks. Finally I called Uconnect and they verified the MPX220 will not work. I covered all bases. I called Motorolla, Bluetooth, Uconnect, and cingular.

Looks like you need to head back and make another choice. Mine was the Nokia 6230.

I would also recommend not buying a motorolla we had 3 of them and had constant connection issues. I have had a Sony Ericson and Nokia that have worked great.

I do have the DC aftermarket UConnect kit. I worked a deal with the dealer to install for free if I bought it. Also they sold it to me at cost. It was part of the deal in buing the truck.

What does the DC aftermarket u connect cost and how much is the installation? I have the RBP I assume the kit works with all the factory radios?

Cost on it if I remeber correctly was about 300. 00. They were going to charge me anbout 150-175 to install. I just went in and told my salesman I wanted the install done for free. The service dept charges sales a different labor rate. They didnt put up much of a fight when I asked. I also have the remote start which is really nice in the winter. I think it was about 200 dollars. They paid for the install on that too.

Thanks for the reply. I think I'll hit up the dealer I bought the truck from for some kind of " deal". This looks like a great option to have as it's hard to shift and hold the phone up to my ear at the same time. I'm not as flexible as I used to be. :-laf

To bad we are talking about cell phones and not trucks

I went back to the cingular store and the sales manager flipped Oo.

He grabbed an associates Motorola phone (a series lower than my new one) and went to my Dodge and tested. His would connect fine once go thru the options on phone pairing.

Mine was not able to connect but it may be because my service has not switched over from my old phone. They say it can take 24hrs.

I will try tomorrow and see.

The saga continues... ... ... ... .....

It is not your service. The phone should sync up with the uconnect if you have service or not.

Believe me man I went to the cingular store about 5 times over 2 weeks. Call Uconnect, they will tell you the MPX220 is not compatable. Save yourself the battle I went thru. Pick out different phones and it will work fine.

It has something to do with the fact they put different Bluetooth chips in PDA style phones that will not work with hands free devices.

I would just hate to have you waste all of your time like I did. Just call Uconnect and ask. I guarantee i will get to say "I told you so".

I called Cingular and told them I needed a "Bluetooth Technology" phone and got a Motorola V 551. Works fine, it wasn't one of the free phones though. Now I want to go out to my truck for all my calls. (Just kidding)

Well I must ask :)

how about the Motorola RAZR V3 phone.

I will go to the store tommorow and exchange. #@$%!

Before I sign on the doted line again I will have him sit in my truck and test.

I think I will take the wifes Land Rover LR3 and make sure it works with her bluetooth also.

If it uses any type of PDA or Microsoft software it wont work. That is what caused the problem with the MPX220. It has windows style software which makes it a type of PDA.

Little clarification: It is not that a phone with PDA functionality won't work. The phone has to be able to support "handsfree" devices. The "headset" profile won't cut it. I just picked up my new 05 last night, and used my Audiovox PDA phone (running windows mobile) to call my girlfriend using Uconnect. Works great. With Bluetooth, it's all in the profiles . . .
