I have the nav system on my '06 Ram 3500, and would like to add U-connect.

Not happy with the dealer-installed version... I want this to be integrated with my nav system's radio.

I see phone options with the nav system, but they are greyed out since I don't already have U-connect.

Is it possible to add factory U-connect since I have this radio? Seems the only part that is missing is the mirror with integrated microphone/controls.

Hoping this will be a simple addition...

Uconnect in 04 w/RB1 nav radio?

Will the after market u connect system work with an RB1 navigation radio? I can't seem to get a straight answer from my dealer's guys. One says yes the other says no. I have a 2004 quad cab.

Factory U-Connect

I just started my research on this idea yesterday. There has been a lot of work on this subject documented on another Dodge related website called "LXForums" Here is what I've found so far:

Terry,

Bad news, I went and started to lookup the original parts for the Ram truck

UConnect. We have a problem, the mirror wiring harness is sold as part of

the headliner assembly. In other words, the only way for us to get that

harness would be to order the headliner for the truck with the UConnect as a

factory option. This really puts a ringer in the ability for us to offer a

kit, and will take us a great deal more investigating to see if this is

something we can do or not.

Search function guys - there have been a few posts on this with lots of detail - it is not a simple operation (thus all the detail). Good luck.

I think it should be simpler than the previous posts that I saw let on.

An $1800 nav system with the U-connect options greyed out shouldn't require a major overhaul to work with the mirror/mic. The odd character out is the u-connect brain, IMO. I'm not satisfied that this is an impossibility yet--and if it is, it is only because Dodge has designed it to be so. Ordering a headliner with a U-connect mirror?!?!? Sheesh!!!

I dont have the nav radio, but I put the u Connect on after the fact (not the factory mirror version)... . and it mutes my radio when a call comes in / or you call out. I know that's not the full functionality you're looking for, but I'd be real supprised if they dont just have a harness that works for your situation. Good luck, it's a pretty cool addition if you talk on the phone a lot... . and it works good at 90mph with 285's... .

U Connect

Giachino, was it hard to install the U connect? I installed my RB1 and the 6 disc changer. Is the U Connect any harder?

I added factory Uconnect to my 2005 Magnum R/T. The problem is that not all vehicles have a wiring harness that is set up for adding factory Uconnect. Some L/X cars have it and some don't. I was lucky.

I will let you all know how I fare when my parts come in.

As near as I could tell, there are 3 key parts;

1. Wiring harness (which I may or may not need, but it was cheap so I ordered it anyways)

2. The mirror assembly which holds the "controls" and mic

3. The "brain" module

FYI - I have a 2006 w/ the Nav radio.

You will definitely need the wiring harness for the new mirror. The questions that you need to answer are:

1. Does the current wiring harness for the radio have all the wiring for Uconnect mirror wiring harness that you have to buy? Some LX cars have it, some don't. I was lucky and my Magnum did. I just ran the new wiring harness from the mirror to the empty wiring harness behind the driver's A pillar.

2. Does the truck have the wiring harness for the Telematics module. My Magnum did? It was behind the glove box and just plugged right in to the Telematics module.

I got the Uconnect and i feel it is a waste. to slow to use. You will be happer with good bluethooth headset. I like the motorola I got at radioshack for less than $40

This is the 'x' factor as we have not yet been able to locate a pigtail to plug into the telematics module. I am researching now whether I just missed this pigtail and it exists OR if I can just construct a wiring harness to go over to the radio/pwr/etc...

Anyone shed any light on exactly where to look for the pigtail on my 06 Ram? Also, is the telematic module mounted behind the glovebox in the OEM app?

Finally, would anyone be willing to PM me their VIN so I can research this part better on a truck with uConnect from the factory - may help me determine where this wire is located...
