Attention: TDR Forum Junkies Well, my 04 now has 130,000 miles... hey don't I get a badge or something for that..... maybe Geno's has them... .
Anyway, I've been chasing this sound..... sounds like a piece of rope or wire hung on the drive shaft and ever time the shaft goes around it makes a whipping sound like its hitting the body..... A couple of days ago I thought about the front drive shaft... . We did the U-joints in the rear shaft, oh lets see, 30 or 40K miles ago... but since the front shaft and knuckles only see some action in the winter we figured that they've coasted along with little wear... .
The right front knuckle is wasted..... really loose and I'm sure it's the sound we're chasing... . We looked all over town for them... . 3 of the suppliers we get u-joints from had them for under 40 each..... a price I think is high but all were out of stock with no replacements due in for 2 weeks... . we finally had to get them from Dishman for $74 each.....
As soon as we get some time to breath I'm going to change the u-joints in the front drive line as well..... I'm sure we won't make it through to winter... this truck will see another 20K by the end of Sept... .
