Dodge Ram 1500 ???

The Museum of Science and Industry (http://www.msichicago.org) has completed the move of the U505 World War II German submarine from outside the museum where it's been for the last 50 years to a new enclosed underground drydock exhibit. It finally reopened a couple of weeks ago, after being off-exhibit for a couple of years.

Wow. http://chixjeff.dnsalias.net/U505

Pictures can't describe the exhibit. It's very well laid out, and you can view the sub from above, below, fore, and aft.

If you're in Chicago with some free time, this exhibit is more than worth the price of admission.

Thats interesting... . will have to go back down and check it all out again. I went thru the U-505 about 15 years ago. Quite the exhibit. Kind of amazing that they were in the boats for 60 days or more and fought a war out of em.

Very cool!

The last time I was in the U505 was grade school (I spent 20 years in Chicago). That was one of the highlights of the field trip.

Man I miss Portillos. :{

I don't suppose I need to point out that Portillo's will indeed ship: http://www.portillos.com/store/

<insert big evil grin here> I introduced a friend from Vancouver to Portillo's a week ago. Thought he was gonna have an accident in my truck on the way back to the airport (in a good way!)

Oh, I'm SURE it's not the same at all..... but what else can you do?

Lessee... Glen Ellyn..... you must be talking about the one on North Avenue in Glendale Heights. I live up in Bloomingdale.

Yep! We lived in the neighborhood behind the parking lot formerly know as Peppers Sports.

<grin> Had some fun one night in Pepper's, shortly after I moved to Chicago. I was accused of being a "professional" when I set my hard box up in the range. I used to shoot NRA Bullseye (. 22 centerfire) when I lived in Petoskey, MI.

No more Pepper's, though. There's a drug store going up now.

Can you still go inside the submarine, or is the exhibit limited to external views?

For us non-native types, what's the specialty at Portillo's?

Interior tours are still available, at a nominal charge.

Portillo's specialty? Probably the Portillo's Dog, a Chicago style hot dog with mustard, onions, peppers, etc. They also have the usual burgers, fries, etc. It's also one of the few fast food places I'll go through the drive through at lunch time.
