Marker light wire harness routing

Just picked up a sweet deal on a UConnect 5.0 radio off Ebay. Currently my backup camera displays in the rear view mirror. Does this move down to the radio head unit with the 5.0? Also what would my options be for the microphone since my current rear view mirror doesn't have one. It is my understanding that is where it is on the factory installed units.

Since you're going from a 3.0 w/camera display in the rear view mirror to a 5.0 w/radio display, you'll need to purchase a custom made three wire harness and tap into the harness at the end of the dash near the A-pillar that actually feeds the rear view mirror.

If you want to go with the microphone, you'll need not only the rear view mirror w/microphone, but the wiring harness from the dash at A-pillar to the rear view mirror (the harness for a backup camera display mirror and a microphone mirror ARE different) and the steering wheel control switches.

I opted to go with the 5.0 upgrade, but I did not go with the rear view mirror or steering wheel control switches.

IT has / can be done.....and it's all plug & play with NO dealer reflashing required, based on what I've read.

Thanks for the info. Wow didn't realize it was going to involve splicing into wiring harnesses. I assume though I can just leave things like they are and continue to have the backup camera display in the rearview mirror and just have a nicer looking radio correct?

You can. You'll just have a blue screen when in reverse on the 5.0 Radio.

The "feed" going to the rearview mirror will still be there, and you'll have the backup camera display still there. I'm 51 and hotshot alot, so I'm always hooking up to a lot of different trailers. The 5.0 screen is a nice upgrade. I don't wear glasses, but I use reading glasses. I no longer need my reading glasses for hooking up since I installed the 5.0 Radio.

Since my truck is DRW, I really like the backup camera, as it allows me to see better due to the wide hips. The wiring harness is not that difficult at all. Tap into three wires at the end of the passenger side dash at the A-pillar, then slide three wires into the OEM radio harness and you're done.

The harness that you tap is located here:

This pic depicts a power source for the cab roof lights.....it's just an example of where the harness is and what it looks like.

Got to say mine came with it the 5.0 installed and I didn't think I would like it but I have to say I love it! it will be worth your time and effort.

Dang it gsbrockman,,,, why couldn't you have just said "oh yeah it is a real pain and not worth the hassle". Now I have got to do it just because. :-laf Just ordered my harness. Thanks for the response from everyone.
