USB drive. You plug it into the USB port in the center console on those that have the console. I do not know where the port is on other models. Flip up console?

So when you order the map update, do they send you an SD card? How is the update transferred to your truck?

I do not know how they could get around the Uconnect security features/codes.

You are correct, Another member sent me the update and I tried to hack in and NO go...Until somebody more qualified then Me on the work around other then the Customtronix, CoastalEtech? Phone Maps. $$$

So to do a map upgrade you have to load the USB drive and it creates a code that you take to the uconnect site and enter, that creates a pass code for your truck that allows the process to continue when it is input to the truck. I think it is a bit fool proof regarding loading someone else's upgraded maps, as it is also vin based.

I put the Vehicle to rest of World, used VIN form host vehicle and was still denied pass code. called and complained how is it you lock owners out of their property? Bla Bla Bla....form the service rep..... Hippy43 after much effort was reimburse for his update..Ram Paid $0 for the update verified through https://www.turbodieselregister.com/threads/uconnect-map-updates-for-2014.259313/

I like following the law/rules supported by principals, its clear exhortation of $$$ in 8.4 map updates.

The blame goes on FCA for allowing it!

Yep.......I'm open to see things differently on this matter, My stand is strong, You paid for the unit 8.4, along with another charge to make Nav functional...What gives FCA the right to stop owners form updating their paid for property? FCA paid $0 for the software, any owner can get the maps form Garmin at 29.99 ride included (DL) but NO , we need to pay FCA blood Money....

I have a five year map subscription through Sirius that came with my truck. I'm checking to see if it is current as I purchased my truck in Mar 2018. I was reading on the U-Connect site and Sirius is partnered with Garmin on their map service. So, I hope it works good as we are heading out next week on a 5 week trip to West and Northwest. We still do MapQuest and still have our WalMart Road Atlas as trusty backups.
