Yea, they made a Chevette with a diesel in the early 80's. Check this page out.

I have seen a couple, one of them was in a compact class demo derby.

I actually had the chance to drive one of these gems way back when. It couldn't get out of it's own way, but it got 50 mpg. And it could belch black clouds. I drove it from Kingston, TN up the mountain to Crossville, TN and back, also drove it up to "Renegade Ski hill". Had it as a loaner car while mine was in the shop. Ragged the heck out of it, but it came back for more. Wonder if it was an Isuzu diesel in it? I know the mid-80's S-10 offered that option, my dad had one and it lasted him almost 200K miles and the current owner still drives it daily.

Chevy Avalanche has to be the ugliest vehicle I have ever laid eyes on. Can't figure out how that got through the "design approval" stage.

Wheeew! I thought that I was the only one that disliked the looks of the Avalanche! I've seen them in my area all decked out with chrome and off-road accessories. I just figured that there were National Clubs for these things as well. Yech! Maybe a cool license plate accessory for them could read "My other car is an Aztec". :D

Chevy Avalanche is the poorest excuse of an automobile I've ever seen. You couldn't give me one of these butt ugly things.

I wouldn't even think about calling it a truck.

I would rather ride a bicycle every day than that thing.

There is a car manufactured in West Palm Beach, FL known as a 'Moseler'. It is pretty much built for the street only to qualify for certain race classes... mid-engined, 2 seats. Anyway, about 10 years ago, there was a charity car show for the blind in which the cars were observed and judged by the blind. The folks were all giggling around the Moseler, and when asked why by an Autoweek journalist someone answered: This is the ugliest car we've ever felt! I must say, it is a nasty looking thing... the current models are quite sexy, however. Personally, I agree that the Aztec and most GM products are darned ugly... . add to the list for me the C4 Vette and Harleys. Just plain ugly to me.

I've seen the SportsCar GT (racing sim) version of the Mosler and it is butt-ugly to sighted people too.

Yeah, Saabs are pretty funky but a 900 would look like a Ferrari when parked next to a hAvalunch.
