Rob... "While Steve is laid up from his future surgery, I may volunteer my assistance in keeping the site running smooth, and remove the excess baggage (Gene)"... ...

please don't do that to all the other 95 sites that Gene spreads his "love" to. . got to spread his "love" out as much as we can so no one site gets saddled with all of it :-{}

Bombing your neck...

hey, you could think about it like that! :D

Steve - today is the 1st I've read about this. I can't help you with your neck / spine. But I'm guessing I'm only about an hour and a half drive. Very soon (like some time next week) I will have about a month off. During that time I may be doing some traveling to see family. But I would be more than happy to take a drive up and help in any way I can, if I'm in MI. then, with the transmission install. Add my name to the list, and let me be one of the 1st guys you may ask, since I'm just a short jump away. Once you get to know me, I think it would dispell all the negative :-{} you and Doc have stored in your harddrive (brain matter) about me.

I guess I just don't know enough about your options to have an opinion, but regardless, I hope your outcome will be great. One thing to add about some back symptoms I had for a while (and still do from time to time). When working in college, I was working for RPS (like UPS). I was lifting 75 lb. tombstones (blanks), and snowblowers (boxed) over, and over, and over this one particular day. Of course I was trying to lift with my legs as much as possible, but both were hard to do that without a lot of bending cause of the large shape of the boxes. Anyway, while lifting one or the other, something in my back moved, and everything gave way. I was able to limp out and go home, but I was out of commission for a couple days. It wasn't as bad as it first felt, or I wouldn't have been able to walk the next couple days I guess.

For a few years after that, when I would be standing straight up, and like arching my back (like when in the shower rinsing the shampoo out of my hair) I would get an instant jolt in my back like someone poked me in the lumbar with a cattle prod, and I would almost fall down. It got real bad for a while, and would happen almost anytime I was just standing up. Went to the doctors, had MRI's, they never found anything. Certainly mine wasn't as bad as yours. Yours looks dang scarey, 1 cm is huge in this case. I eventually worked mine out on my own (a long story, this reply is long enough already).

Good luck with your neck / spine. And seriously, if you need another hand for anything, let me know. I've not installed a transmission and would like to see / help in the process.

You'll be fine :) I know several people who had that procedure done and you cant tell that they ever had a problem. It will hurt for a while (I've had lumbar surgery :{ ) so I can relate. Remember this, when a cute nurse asks your 'sex' say "YES PLEASE :-laf

Andy, don't feel to bad, I figured all you PA boys are about the same-------------------- so you'd all get the boot, LOL.

Gary, no worries, a while ago I inquired about becoming a moderator-------- I'm quite certian Steve is still laughing uncontrolably about that, :) . I'm lucky to be posting, no chance at any "real" controls. :( LOL

Steve, what did I tell ya about those hard launches in 4x4. So whens the party in Sunfield to duct tape your transmission back in?

Looks like tomorrow Wayne. Just got the call that the transmission is in and Rob is going to pick it up in the morning and then coming out. I'm trying to get someone else lined up to help right now.

Lined up...

I talked to Steve and Rob a minute ago, I'm lined up! :D Tonight I'm may go buy those party hats and those whistle things you blow and they roll-out, plus some confetti(sp?). Wooo Hooooo! Oo. What esle should I bring to the party?

P. S. - My month off hasn't started yet, but I feel like I'm getting inflammation of the bomb (bombitis), so I'm pretty sure I won't be at work tomorrow (cough, cough - I can't come to work today (boss), I've got bombitis, & it may be contagious). :D ;)

Yea, sure, do it when I cant come up. I have a few deer to get rid of. Well, ahve fun puttin it in. Do you need me to overnight some good duct tape in so you have it??

Got the 2nd opinion today - (pointing at MRI) "That is HUGE, it has to come out. No question. " So I told them to schedule it as soon as possible after thanksgiving. Things got worse this weekend with more numbness, more pain, and the fingers on my left hand are sometimes doing things that I'm not telling them to and not doing the things I'm telling them to at other times - VERY disconcerting.

I can't wait to get put under and start getting this behind me. . . .

Steve,

My Brother in-law is having a similar surgery done today. They are replacing the ruptured disks with bone from his hip. Also I know they are going in from the front. I think he has two ruptured disks.

I know he has tried to contact many people whom have had this surgery to try and ease his fears. If you need to talk with someone who has had this very recent, I'm sure in a few days or in the next few weeks he would love to answer some questions to help someone out.

Take care,

Ken

Hope things went well for your brother in law, Ken. I have a surgery date set now - December 3rd. It can't get here fast enough. I'm getting really sick of the pain and the lack of control of my fingers.

you're gonna do FINE steve. remember THINK POSITIVE!!

don't forget to laugh and if the OR staff doesn't try to get you laughing... . you get them laughing ok?? as an OR nurse i am speaking totally from experience here.

BTW, you are in our thoughts and prayers here in CT just the same.
