Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Uh Oh- code 0216 help

Code 0216 :{

I think this is injection pump timing failure. Just learned from TDR how to check these and read it today. Truck runs OK for the most part but does have occasional inconsistant throttle resp. Need to check LP/fuel pressure next. Question: Is it ALWAYS bad to see this code. Is the VP doomed for failure? Or, if the LP needs fixing and I take care of that, might the VP live??? Pay now or pay later?

hows the truck running. good i hope,tap that wire yet... ... ..... i put 30k on an 0216 code befor i changed my last pump,just thought i would throw that out there. could die on you anytime ,just not a good feelin

It's running great! I haven't tapped the wire yet, I'll probably wait a couple months before taking the fall.

The truck seems to be more responsive without any extra power. It has a different sound, but that could be because I had the valves adjusted at the same time.
