Now with the intro of the ULSD fuels, it seems to be safe, one should add some fuel additive or conditioner. My question is which is the best brand or type to consider? I know everyone has favorites and oppinions but in general I am looking for some good recommendations as to type and best place to purchase. A friend of mine and I are talking of going together and by a supply in bulk and split it up. Does anyone know of someplace that would discount a few cases or more if necessary to get a good price?

There has been a lot of talk on this issue here on TDR. There was a Poll done last week and it shows how everyone voted. Power Service seemed to get the most votes, but Stanadyne was a close second. I think the PS won because it's readily available in Walmart and most parts stores. I personally like the Valvoline Synpower with the Cummins logo on it. But it says to use every 3000 miles. I think we need something each tank so I am using the PS.

KSears, I use Stanadyne Performance Formula year round. It was recommended by a friend that owns a diesel injection service shop.

The service manager where I go said use a small bottle of two cycle per tank full every third tank? He also put a bottle of something that D/C now has in stock for injector cleaning in my tank and it seems to have worked as I was getting some rough idle and white smoke on start up before. bg

Put me firmly in the Stanadyne PF camp. OEM's do indeed approve it, except Cummins. I suspect they want you to buy their product. The PF gives you more than just lubricity improvement (Anti-gel, anti-corrosion, anti-smoke, cetane improver). Since cost seems to be the driving factor in this thread, here are my numbers:

1 case, 12 pint bottles: $75. 00 (incl tax), give or take.

12 x 16oz = 192 ounces

4 ounces treats 15 gallons (my usual stop)

192 ounces treats 720 gallons.

Cost: 10. 4 cents per gallon (3. 6% of fuel cost @ $2. 89).

Stanadyne claims 5% mileage improvement. If this is so, PF saves you money. If I am looking for the improvement, I see it. We see what we want to see. With no improvement in mileage the cost is still worth it to me.

Whatever product you use run the numbers like this. Happy motoring!

The Amsoil Diesel Fuel Additive was designed with the ULSD in mind. I used the old formula every tank year round and am continuing that with this new formula.
