Looks like Stanadyne or 2 cycle oil may be the best value.

Interesting to me is that Marvel did so poorly and that is what many of the so called "gurus" of boat diesel engines recommend. I guess I'll change my ways.

BTW I have done this kind of testing in a past job on several occasions (for camshaft journal materials) and it is pretty reliable and repeatable. The variable is the measurement of the wear scar but only when comparing sizes that are close.

2 cycle ashless oil

Mr DONE,

Do you use anything for anti-gel along with that?

Jay

I throw in 8 oz of Diesel Kleen anti-gel and cetane boost. Until I find something better that is availiable local, thats it for now. According to the web-site listed above, I dont know what that FPPF product is, less where to find it.

I've used Stanadyne PF for 10 years in engines ranging from 3208 Cats and 8. 3L ISC's. Its always been "cheap" and it works. No mystery with this stuff. It worked wonders in reducing white puffs of smoke at startup and black smoke under power for the 3208.

Once I took a jar of untreated diesel and left it outside on a -11 F winter night. In the morning it had went from a nice gold color to a light yellow color and it was definately waxed up. Like a slush puppy drink.

About 5 drops of Stanadyne PF and it immediately de-waxed and and clear (except for the typical yellow color).

So in this situation... a fuel heater was almost unnecessary. It sold me.

Around here (CT) we have a chain called "Fleet Pride" and they sell truck parts, etc. They carry FPPF products.

Unfortunately, they dropped Stanadyne products in favor of FPPF and that's what I had been using for several years... until now.

It's strange that Stanadyne is located about 30 miles from here... but I have never seen their products on a store shelf.

I just mixed some quaker state snomobile oil (used that 'cause I thought it might be more resistant to gelling... ) and some stanadyne... feeling pretty good about that now, though I haven't even used it yet. Do ya suppose the effects are additive (no pun intended... )?
