Does anyone out there know when the NEW CRAP hits the streets on a national level? I only get my fuel @ the Flying J's in Wyoming!... TIA. . Scott

Scott, the owner of Town Pump in Casper told me to start using additive every tank a thousand miles ago. I actually started using Stanadyne 4 tanks ago and am now back up to 21 mpg. I'll use it from now on, it's cheap equipment protection. john

Has anyone actually seen it posted on the pump? I have been cross country twice now and have yet to see one pump marked as ULSD... I have seen LSD (marked), but not ULSD.

I have been hauling it to the stations since June. The stickers that say not to use it in 07 diesels will remain on the pumps until the LSD has been blended out enough for the ULSD to meet specs. Most of our stations let the tanks run down real low before I droped a load 10,000 gals of ULSD. It needs to be in compliance by Sept. at which time the stickers will be removed. As far as additive goes, there is an additive already being added as I load my tanker ar the pipeline. I'm not sure what it consists of, but I will continue to use power service in my Dodge. Doubt if the boss is going to add any additive to our trucks at work.

I just add a quart ( or lately just half a quart) of 30W non-detergent motor oil. It helps actually give a slight improvement in mileage by reducing friction and leakage in the pump. Costs pennies too, and (I think) it still contains all the sulphur that is naturally in crude oil. The actual percentage of oil will be about 0. 8%, so the weight of oil makes no difference, it is very diluted, but enough to make a difference. Does not smoke any worse either. Don't use used oil with the common rail.

You'd get even more milage if you add 1 gal of oil. You are adding fuel to the tank.

I suspect that by now, it's pretty hard to NOT be using ULSD - at least in significant percentages as loads of the new stuff are steadily dumped into existing station tanks of the "old" diesel fuels. At least that's true here in the boonies of eastern Oregon, where the ULSD has been being delivered for the last 2 months or so.

No way any of us are going to escape the stuff in normal circumstances - OR the price increases the new stuff brings with it... :rolleyes: :{

ANYWAY, I'll just stick with my increased use of PS additive and 2-stroke oil - and yeah, don't forget to calculate the added volume of additives into yer hand calculated MPG either, if you want accurate numbers to brag/complain about... ;)

I should have said even after accounting for the extra quarter gallon, the mileage is still a little (maybe 0. 5mpg) better.

The CP3 pump, I heard, uses up to 18 hp at full pressure. I find that number a little high, but even at a quarter that, you see how cutting friction and leakage due to an oil film, can improve your mileage.

The reason given by Bosch for regulating pressure by starving the CP3 of fuel, (that's what the solenoid does) rather than by dumping excess high pressure, was that it uses up a lot of horsepower to produce that high pressure fuel. (they also dump a quantity of fuel to cool the pump, but that is low pressure, about 180 psi at most, as compared to 100 times more energy that it takes to produce 18000 psi rail pressure)

The current design injectors leak high pressure fuel back to the tank whenever they stay open, so that's wasteful there.

It was june before I saw the "Do not use in 07" lsd stickers. I went from MI, to Mont end of june through middle of july and saw plenty of lsd stickers but not one single ulsd sticker. Made me glad I wasn't driveing an early 07 diesel of any kind. Given the evidence that it has been going into tanks the past 3mo. makes me glad I use additive every tank.

Wouldn't that be the ultimate warranty buster for D. C. ?, sell the truck before factory authorized fuel is available.

Jan 1 2007 is the impementation date for the new emissions. Sept 1 was supposed to be the switch over for ULSD but heard that was extended to Oct 15 to give suppliers more time to get it into the pipe line.

Begs the question, do the early 07's have all the emissions equipment? If so, how is that gonna be impacted by the slipping ULSD dead lines?

We are getting mix of ULSD now at some if not most places. I wonder what problems that is causing.

I just filled my tank with my trucks first ULSD at a 76 station in Anaheim Ca. , caught me by surprize and had to buy MMO next day due to late PM purchase. Where can I get ashless two stroke oil in so cal?
