Good info about the fueling and MPG effects...



I've only driven my truck about 3K miles over the past year but I've been happy with the MPG so far. My last fill-up calculated to a tick over 21. 5 mpg. Not bad for an engine with over 250K miles on it.



I've been looking around at various engine mods, but I still have a bunch of drive train, suspension and steering bits to replace first. By the looks of things, I'll have more money in the truck in fixes and mods than I paid for it...

If it has steel rims get rid of them and put on aluminum or alloy wheels, that will decrease rolling resistance.

Curious how aluminum or alloy wheels reduce rolling resistance? Presume they would weigh less but would that be why?

Also, it seemed like the aerodynamics of cab and bed were tested covered/uncovered with no advantage or was that tailgate open/closed they tested?



Re: waste oil use, I donated a 3stacker Frantz to mechanic friend and he is rigging it up for filtering waste atf. We will try it with 50% diesel. I think waste atf was discussed before perhaps on Alternative Fuel segment. larry

aluminum wheels don't reduce rolling resistance, but they take less power to turn, reduce unsprung weight and obviously vehicle weight
