Looking into a new truck. I'm considering waiting for the 2003's, so I can get a Crew-Cab. I know I don't want to be stuck with stock power, unless DC makes it worth while. What direction will the BOMB'ing go. Has anybody got plans?

How will the common fueling rail affect performance modifications(injectors, etc. )?

Will it be a lot more expensive to make upgrades, like the Fords and that "other" kind?

With higher performance levels, comes soot. What will happen when this passes throught the EGR equipment (which it looks like Cummins will have), and back into the engine?

Is Cummins only making these mod's to the pick-up truck engine, or do they have plans to use the new configuration in bigger stuff? (Will it be capable of more power than stock?)

Really want the crew cab, but cannot sacrifice the power. Please advise!

It will take about a year after the introduction of the truck. As you might expect, those companies who were innovators with the current generation will probably be the first to complete their R&D efforts and offer products. When you invest your money with the innovators, you help to ensure that the next generation will be covered. :)

It may be a tad early to figure it out yet. Yes, Cummins is gonna have EGR. YUK!

The comonn rail will be computer controlled so... . electronic boxes and such will be the first thing I would think.

I was thinking the EPA had a 2 year agreement with Cummins and Navistar to not start the light duty truck EGR yet.

Maybe I'm wrong on that. I know the Navistar will not be EGR the first two years, after that... maybe we can all band together and get the gubmint to forget about whole thing... hehehe!

The story is the common rail Cummins will be over 300 horses.

Still a far cry from most bombed flavors though

Last issue of TDR Magazine (p75) implies Cummins is on schedule to meet the new EPA regulations, which it later states, will take place by October 2002.

What will soot do to the coolers, etc?

I thought I had read that as well. But at the same time I read the EPA agreed to let them relax for two years. YUK again!

They do talk about a cooled EGR gas in some article i read. I hope they wont run it through the intercooler. Looks like the performance market will be slightly delayed but, like Joe states the inductry will be right behind the release of the trucks to get something going.

I think I will be keeping the old 97 for few more years and use the K. I. S. S. axiom.

I was told that the new body style 03's will still use the current ISB, and the common rail will debut in 04. This info came from a Dodge rep at a Dodge Pro Rodeo.

Just to add my confusion, I thought I had read either in the TDR mag or a Cummins press report somewhere that The ISB would make the 2002 emissions WITHOUT an EGR valve or after-exhaust treatment:confused:

Oh, yea forgot to mention rumors keep saying this new common rail injection is going to quiet things down under the hood. Think there was a post awhile back where someone had heard this new engine in a test mule and compared it's noise to that of a gasser:( I for one don't want a "quiet" diesel, where's the fun in that? Seems like people want the power and durability of a diesel but don't want the noise, smell, smoke, etc. If they can't handle it, then maybe they don't belong in the "big boys" class. Diesel aren't for everyone, so wish manufactures would stop tring to make engines which appeal to everyone. Just my opinion:rolleyes:

diesel noise

i agree and like the cummins signature noise. ya gotta luv it. it's interesting, tho, there are folks on tdr trying to make their rigs noisier--straight pipes, remove the silencer ring, etc. ther is a current thread, i think about insulating the cab to eliminate the engine noise. i think my sport may have extra cab sound "proofing". i know it is very acceptable esp at highway speeds. no difficulty at all carrying on a normal conversation at normal voice levels:cool:
