Hey Hammersley, you are absolutely correct. But... ..... They can take it directly out of the ground and send it straight to a refinery... ... NO TRANSPORTATION COST. Checked on the chartering rate of a super tanker lately??? Transportation cost alone add upwards of . 25 to . 30 cents per gallon to fuel. Now, I DO believe that the price is being held artifically low for a couple of reasons.
1. Iraq's money is practically worthless. Until the goverment is stabilized it will stay that price.
2. Most of the fuel being sold in Iraq is being refined in Kuwait, one if not the only arab country willing to pull their weight. They are being paid well below market value, but hope by helping to stabilize the region in the long run it will help them economically.
P. S. Hopefully I have kept politics out of the above post. If not, I am trying to keep it out.
