I don't know, I am glad to see the Dmax is doing well... And as LSmith said, this is the only way for our trucks to get better:D I personally, am a Cummins guy, but I am first and foremost a fan of quality engineering no matter who makes it.

Clint, that is pretty impressive, it looks like Chevy may have a winner... finally. ;) 39psi huh? How much more do you think it'll take?:D

I think worry is the wrong word but Interest is more like it... Just look at the View numbers when the Duramax is brought up they climb fast and steady

The statement of the Fattest wallet wins Is correct there is always someone with more for sure..... Competition is good to get a good factory starting base... . !!!!!!

I have no complex, nor did I get beat up at High School and I'm not out for revenge now to beat up on smaller motors ..... All though when I'm lined up with a Fast and Furious wanna be I do let him have it... . :-laf

I find that more guys are egging me on then I do them,in Fords and Dodges..... I pick and choose my VICTIMS... . I should of went to HOOTERS in CT last time you guys meet up, and showed you guys not all Chebby owners have issues..... :-laf

Comparing cylinder count wouldn't be the proper way to compare apples to oranges as total cubic inches is what is at stake but I get your point the Duramax does have a slight lead there, but not by much... ... Reliability, time will tell. . there is some Hot Shot haulers out there that are racking up some mileage, with minimal problems... .

Were all burning DIESEL, so at least we can agree on that,I hope.....

MAC :D

Us worry?

I for one am glad for the Chevy boys, they finally have a winner. It is about time. When they reach 600+hp on straight diesel, then I would would worry. Izuzu makes a good diesel, realiability will tell. I would like to see this one Duramax in there pulloffs and see if it would hold for 10miles of 6% grade. I am sure you can find a way to break it Clint, if not give it to me and I will do it for ya. :D

What do you mean don't worry about the chevy #s? He!! yeah, I am going to worry about them! I ain't letting a chevy beat me! I got 465rwhp and Clint's has got 512!! I need more hp! I believe Clint's #s. The guy on the phord site sounded really fishy. He gained 50 rwhp w/ intake and exhaust. This is BS. He also said it dynoed at 199rwhp stock and then w/ a chip got 235rwhp more power!

No brand loyalty here - I like what I like regardless of who makes it. But, the numbers don't lie - a stock 2002 Duramax is more powerful than a stock 2002 CTD or a stock 2002 Powerstroke. Whether or not the Duramax will hold up at higher power levels is another story, but I doubt that Isuzu would have let something out the factory doors that could harm their reputation. Besides, better than 90% of the people who buy a new Duramax (or CTD, or PSD) are going to leave it bone stock, or at best change the air filter and exhaust. People like us, who are always trying to get more power, are in the minority. We have been, since the muscle car era and earlier, and probably always will be.

Now, that being said, if I could BUILD the ideal truck for myself using stuff that's readily available, it'd have a 12V 5. 9L (I refuse to go electronic) and NVG5600, with a leaf-sprung solid front axle (a la SuperDuty) with manual hubs in a Chevy/GMC chassis. I think the Cummins is the most proven engine among the big three, the leaf-sprung SFA has stood the tests of time and severe duty like no other design, and Chevy has always had great body lines and comfort. Anyone who says comfort isn't an important criterion obviously hasn't spent any length of time behind the wheel! Noise is entirely subjective - nothing on the market seems loud to me when compared to the military vehicles I've ridden in/driven over the years. A first-time diesel buyer may find the noise level of a CTD or PSD to be too objectionable when compared to what he's used to driving. I personally think a diesel is supposed to be loud enough to hear 2-3 car lengths ahead, and the recent trend toward quieting them is due in part to diesel trucks becoming a status symbol among soccer moms and yuppies. Mark my words, before long they'll find a way to rid diesel fuel of its characteristic odor and the fuel stops will hire attendants to make sure the hoses and nozzles don't have fuel on them!:D

you guys need to get over the aluminum thing.

I think GM's are junk from the word go, but I doubt it has anything to do with aluminum

I know it is fast, but how many miles do they get out of it? :{

Not!

I didn't buy a diesel to run the quarter in 12 seconds. I bought a diesel to run up and down a mountain with 10,000 lbs, over and over and over and over and over and " and " and ". That is what a diesel is about. That is what they are made for, all this hp and et is for the gasser crowd, torque is for the diesel crowd.

They probably got one mile out of it!

That isnt really the point. It hat 10 times the horses of any Cummins or D-Max and if it warped heads they would still be useing iron Hemi heads.

BTW there are also plenty iron blocks with aluminum heads, raceing, or not, also makeing horsepower without problems.

This is not the first thing I would worry about if I was buying a D-MAX (which I wouln't be doing).

People buy their trucks for different things. I bought mine precisely for the reasons you state you didn't. Only thing my truck has towed is a sled pull.

Rather then ridicule anothers brand (which I am sure is in good fun) why not learn more about it? This wasn't amied specificly at you... just a general statement.

Thats why

Rather then ridicule anothers brand (which I am sure is in good fun) why not learn more about it?

This is the reason I belong to this forum, the dieselpage, dieselcentral, dieselram and others, to learn. I just don't see putting thousands of dollars into a rig just to tear it up drag racing, now maybe sledpulling, but not dragracing. I understand the need for speed, but to ruin a perfectly good truck? If I was going to run competition quarter mile, I would want to go with that Keith Black hemi in my old 84 Dodge. I just don't have the dollars to waste. Been there, done that.

It is fun to watch the competition between the brands grow though. What we have to realize is that it took Ford seven years to catch up to Dodge and the Cummins (they still are in comp form) and GM 14 years to catch up (still trying in comp form). When they finally pass us it will be HARD earned and we should be gracious.

Then build the new generation up and blow their doors off!!!!!

Personally I would not want to race a gasser on the drag strip! Why would I want to be like millions of other people. I bought my truck to paint the town black. I bought it so I could pull my landscaping trailer and smoke the lowriders. You said "When they finally pass us it will be HARD earned and we should be gracious. " I ain't gonna let them pass me if I can help it!

;)

You guys need to put your money where your mouth is. The Dmax that won the Montana Pull Off, towing 16k up a 6% grade hit 84 mph from a dead stop and was still accelerating. An modified '01 Ram came in second at 78 mph. I'll let folks know when it comes round again next summer, I think we can beat them. Beware though, aftermarket bombs for the Dmax are just showing up, they're looking at 800 Duramax horsepower in the very near future.
