A trip to Big Sky Country, that messes with my grey matter a bunch.



The story about Ruth was something else, wonder where the story about the story came from? Was it a true passed down story from the Civil War? Was it from the Gunsmoke series in the script? Doesn't really matter, just curious, but it was a good story.

Gary Ya I got an Elk and it wasn't a record book kind but it was one heck of a stalk on it. Now that I have calmed down and had time to think about it. It was one of the most pleasurable hunts ive had. When a 54 cal round ball comes home it say's hello BIG TIME. Yes quite an experience in hunting.

I have not carried my smokepole for hunting, but I think the iron sights and the big what if when you squeeze it off and a serious stalk, well it can't get too much better than that. I have one book that might make some good reading when you are snowed in, its the Long Rifle the story of Dan'l Boone's KY long rifle. Including the origin and how he "earned" it. But then it really focuses on what happened to it and how it traveled on the fur trade into the Rockies and some insight on the fur trade. A great read. I learned what "We'll see which way his stick floats" meant to the Mountain Men. And yer "possibles pouch".

I will have to look that one up I belong to a book club (YES!!!! I CAN READ BUT LIKE PICTURES TO) they have a list of books that pertain to the time frame of the mountain men and exploration of the West.

As long as we are passing out smoke pole books that should be read by all. Is "Jack Hinson's One Mans War" by Tom Mckenney. It is about Civil War Plantation owner who lost some of his family and built a custom rifle and became a sniper. Really gives some insight to the time period.

We usually get the rookies with that. The kids'll come in dayworking with us, and we'll keep talking about that ring wearing on that horse..... They'll really get off and get to looking for where it's rubbing at... . naturally, they care about their horse... . Then, after about 3-4 minutes of this, we'll tell 'em..... They usually don't talk to us for a good hour or so after that... .



Never left, just living the life. Farming and rach work... . I see you've been back to work, too!! I haven't been having THAT much fun, but I sure have had a little... .....
