I have 94 1 ton dully single cab with an 8' box with 4" exhaust. I am looking for a fuel tank that I can mount in the space that the spare tire takes up. I dont know if the larger exhaust will be a problem or not. Also, has anyone out there rerouted there exhaust pipe to put two full size tanks under there truck? Would appreciate any help or advice.

Transfer Flow had a tank that went where the spare goes. I think they stopped making it, but you could see ifthere are any left.

I called Transfer Flow and they told me they didn't make them any longer. I might have to try finding a used one. Any advice? I have a tank in the bed of the truck but I would like to use that exclusively for my off road equipment. That way I can put off-road diesel in that tank. I need to increase the fuel capacity of the truck so I don't have to pull from the tank in the box. Is there anyone out there that has a 50 gallon replacement tank?

Option: TITAN

Check out Titan replacement tanks. I'm not sure if they can make you a tank for the spare tire space, but their stock tank replacement looks interesting.

For a custom tank build, look in my readers rigs. . I forget which album it is in but I have pics of a plastic tank I bought from Western Marine. . it is a 18 gal. "below decks" tank, and I did some other customizing for the fill. . I used a Marine deck fill plug on the fender... . I used some wood for A spacer on top of the tank and 2" metal straps bolted to the frame piece. I still have my 34 gal and the aux tank has a optional level and gauge to get.

I pump this tank to a capped port on top of the main tank. You need a good clamp on this fo the pressure as it fill from the bottom of the main. I bought a regular holly pump for the transfer... I do it from the cab on the fly... Good luck!

Had one made by RDS for a gm, They will build to your spec's

cost me less than 400 us for a 36 gal tank. Used it as a transfer to the main

worked excellent...

I did had to leave a notch for the exhaust...

I am thinking about taking a tank off of a 80's suburban. I believe they were close to forty gallons. I am pretty sure it would fit without problems, although I have yet to measure it. I have seen them before at salvage yards in good shape for pretty cheap.

I have a Titan SuperTank 58 gal replacement tank on my 2005. It has worked flawlessly, but customer support (after the sale) at this company has apparently taken a nose dive. They were real helpful with mine, but one other TDR member ordered one in Dec 06 and never could get a hold of the company by phone or email. They did not return calls. His tank finally arrived (damaged vent) with no installation instructions. He finally got some instructions and got it installed, but I caution anyone who might consider this company until they prove they have their customer support in order...

Thanks guys, I appreciate all the input. I need more than the extra 15 gal. I could get with a replacement tank, but if I combine that with another tank I;m sure it will be sufficient. Please keep the ideas coming, I have learned a lot. I will be checking out the Suburban tank idea to see if I can make that work.

Just looked under my 2002, A tank to replace the spare would be a project.

The bracket that mounts the spare is mounted to another cross member.
Not a simple square opening to be filled with a tank.

I have a truck camper and would like at least another 35 gallons,
can not figure a way to get extra tanks mounted... .

Do they make saddle tanks , like the big rigs, only way it seems doable...

Talked to RDS about Custom Saddle tanks, They did not want to deal with the
DOT approval, I guess each design requires it...

Only other option I can think of is to mount 2 tanks inside bed forward
on each side, approx 16 gals per side. and expense of 2 tanks...

I have regular cab or single cab and it's my understanding that the largest tank made for my truck is 50 gal. The last time I checked with Transfer Flow was a couple of years ago I try again to see if anything has changed. Has anyone out there rerouted the exhaust pipes to be able to mount two tanks inside the frame rails?

A friend of mine used a racing fuel cell from a racing truck where the spare tire was, We just did a little cutting and welding of brackets, and it fits perfect, I'll try to get in touch with him to see what brand, bought it from summit racing, street legal and safe. Filler is inside the bed side behind fender with cap etc easy to get to. Later good luck.

The extra tank in place of the exhaust seems like a good idea.

Can't figure how to get exhaust under frame , forward of where tank would go, If you could get it outside frame, you would probably need a side pipe
exhaust, forward of the rear wheel. Does not appear to be enough room
to get exhaust over axle outside frame...

I to would like an extra tank, can not see 1000 bucks for an extra 24 gals
max with a replacement fuel tank...

Hi RJ. I talked with an exhaust guy in Minneapolis and he said it was fairly common to tap off the down pipe with a splitter pipe that goes from the 4" done pipe and splits into 2 3. 5" pipes witch he bends to go outside the frame and then turns to exhaust right before the duels. He recommended putting running boards on so that the end of the exhaust pipe would come out from under the running boards. He claims that even with the bends there is better flow ie less restriction with 2 3. 5" pipes than there is with 1 4" pipe. That leaves the whole right side free for mounting another tank either identical to the original one or an upgraded larger one. I haven't tried this yet but if anyone else has please get back to me. If anyone has a tank kit that will fit where the spare tire goes please contact me as well. I'm with you on not paying a $1000 if you don't have to. So keep the shade tree ideas coming and we'll get something worked out.

Thanks Bill

Does he drop the pipes under the frame????

I think they would have to go outside , quite a ways forward, to allow
room for any usefull sized tank...

No, the pipes do not go under the frame. There is room where the frame starts to bend upwards by the front wheel wells to get the pipes through. Like I said I haven't done this myself, I'm quoting what I was told. It does seem like it would work, and like I said this guy has done it so I'm sure it can be done.

I've seen a 1st gen with a 36 gallon tank in the spare tire location. The tank came from a early 80s dodge van. Probably could make the same tank fit a 2nd gen too.
