Can sombody HELP? I have a squeak under my driver area that is driving me nuts, and I cannot find it. WHile driving it sounds like a high pitch squeak, like metal rubbing on metal. Sombody out there must have the same problem, HELP?

Heh Im in the same boat there is another thread on this already and it seems to be a common problem and no one seems to know how to fix it.

Have the squeek and also a nice vibration noise when I am down close to what might be considered lugging. Haven't dud into the dash, just waiting for my hearing to fail. :D

Do you have an auto or a stick? Is the noise present when you "push" on the truck from the drivers side and rock it?

Mine started about a week ago. Sounds like a tapping rather than a squeak, but it's coming from the same area as yours is.

I have so many damn rattles in my new truck I'm thinking of burning it and getting a Duramax!!!! This truck is only about 3 months old too... . Oh yeah the cab markers leak too. One quality POS!!!

rub, squeak noise

. Found a rub-squeak on my 2001. 5 (auto's only). I know of

another dodge that had the same rub squeak. Beside

the auto trans(drivers side) the gear shifter linkage goes

through a black plastic bushing. Spray this (bushing) with

some type of lube(wd-40). The rub-squeak noise was

gone for about 5000 miles, then it needed another

shot of lube to keep quiet. It would be interresting to

know if any other trucks have the same problem.

My 98 12v 5 speed had an annoying squeak from under

the drivers dash. Again using wd-40 I sprayed the clutch

pedal area and the squeak disappeared after a few days.

Also the clutch pedal worked alot smoother.

I remeber reading an old posting where spraying the

steering shaft fixed a squeak. Also check the plastic

cowling(heater intake air)vent on the windshield, if it is

loose this can cause a little squeaken. Rattles and

squeaks are #%@*&^# irritating but when you get

them fixed it like driveing a new truck. Good luck!

Mine's a chirp! Started after I installed my Power Vision mirrors. Seems more pronounced with the AC on. No clue!

My wife's Durango had what sounded like a squeak in the left end of the dashboard when it was delivered. Turned out to be the upper rear corner of the left front fender rubbing on the cowl - no wonder I couldn't find it!

Rusty

If the squeak is worse when turning left or right might be the same one I had. Raise the hood and soak the steering steering u-joint with WD-40 and turn the wheel lock to lock. That fixed mine, seems to be a common problem. I had one squeak in the mounting bolts for the rear seat too, one bolt was cross-threaded. Funny thing was it sounded like it was inder the dash.

No didn't forget just couldn't remember which forum it was in.....

Anyhow check the trans shifter linkage bushings. They call it a "torque shaft" and grommet's. Replaced those and noise is gone. Hope that helps.

Do you have a service manual?

Hi Kat,

No I havent had a chance to check this out yet. And no service manual. Thanks for the info. Ill check that out!

moved...

The progression of this thread is such it would be best in the 2nd generation chassis forum... it has been moved from General Diesel.

Thanks

STEERING SHAFT SQUEAK

this area squeak has reared it's ugly head again in a new post called steering column squeak and one reponse indicated that his steering column shaft was replaced along with the bearing that is just on the driver's side of the firewall, that fixed the squeak. all these comments are helpful. john skalet
